Questions & Answers

Is it true that shipping can take up to two months?

No, it all depends on where you buy.

Is it possible to use this stain in conjunction with a clear gloss water-based sealer?

When spilled, it doesn't appear to dry, leading me to believe it isn't water-based and may have a tacky texture or rub off. However, if you used a lot of sealer and very little color, it might work.

What can you accomplish with this bottle?

It covers a lot of ground. It is up to you how dark you want it to be. It's been two years, but I believe it received a 5-star rating. Concrete (six bags)

How much do you need to use per bag of concrete, for example?

I agree with the other posters that concrete should not be mixed with it
5/5

I agree with the other posters that concrete should not be mixed with it. For a charcoal color, mix 1 gal milk jug with 3 tbsp and paint on. To make sure you don't overdarken, paint a couple of coats. I used a $20 electric paint sprayer to complete the project.

It should be applied rather than mixed
3/5

1 star for the instructions, because 1 bottle in even just 9sq/in of concrete will only take the concrete from a 10% black to possibly 40% black. To actually change the concrete mix, you'd need a metric ton of this stuff. But. One reviewer uses it to dye not-yet-yet-yet-yet-yet-yet- A much more efficient solution is to use completely cured concrete on the surface.

It's difficult to work with because of the inconsistency
3/5

In comparison to what is sold locally, there is less product in the bottle. I wish I had known how difficult it would be to use this so I could have returned it sooner; the color blends fine, so that isn't the issue. However, if you need to cover a larger area or use more than one bag of mortar, it will be difficult to achieve a consistent color the next time because this mixes into the water before being added to the mortar rather than into the mortar itself. If you've ever done this, you'll know that you often need more water than the bags of mortar specify, and we had to add as we went until we reached the right consistency to apply. The color shade will vary depending on how much water is used. The more water there is, the less color there is. I was experimenting with samples to see if I could combine the brown and the charcoal. Even when I used the same ratio of brown to charcoal, the color changed when the amount of water was changed. After writing this original review, I've returned to add that the powder bags sold on and by Amazon contain less product than those purchased locally. As I was preparing to return the locally purchased items, I noticed that the bottle seemed lighter, so I weighed everything on our food scale. The three that were purchased locally weighed in at around 1. 49 to 1. The Amazon bottle weighed in at 1 pound, compared to 51 pounds for the Amazon bottle. 28lbs.

I didn't expect to get what I did
3/5

I needed a small bottle of concrete stain to fix some spots on my basement floor where the original stain had pulled up due to the tape used on the carpenter board during renovation (the original contractor applied it incorrectly, but that's another story and review). This came up in my search for topical stain. The description didn't say much about the stain's type, just that it was liquid concrete stain. I quickly realized it was meant to be added to wet concrete when I opened the package and container to retouch my floor. Hard concrete should not be stained. Perhaps it's my fault for making assumptions, but the product description is quite confusing. I now have two open containers of random concrete stain in my cabinet, with no concrete projects in the works.

On dried cement, it's okay to use
3/5

Update: br>As a result, I wiped the paint away from the counters. It looks pretty good with the dark charcoal/black mixed in, almost like a marble effect; I just need to find some kind of sealant to add shine. br>br>Previous comment: br>I used it to seal my already-cured concrete countertops. I knew there was a chance it wouldn't saturate, but I had to put it to the test because some people had success with it on dry concrete while others didn't. br>On already dry countertops, it comes out black, not charcoal. When you touch it, it feels like coal. br>It could be kept in with a sealer. br>I'm giving it three stars because I'm not sure if it will work if poured in before the concrete has had time to set/dry. I believe it would, but I haven't tried it so I can't say for sure.

As a result, the color becomes grayish
3/5

We were looking for something dark; However, I decided that charcoal would suffice as a dark color. Due to the weather, we had to do it in stages. We mixed everything according to the recipe. The first batch of ours turned out to be a light gray color. As a result, we increased the amount of dye we used by a factor of two. Our final product was a mix of grays that were a little on the medium side. Although it isn't exactly what we wanted, we have received compliments on how 'antiqued' or 'authentic old fashion style' it appears (the only reason it received two stars). If the instructions had been mixed up, the result would have been disastrous. Pour the concrete first, then the dye; this way, only one layer needed to darken. It would have been so much better if it hadn't been for the fact that it wasn't for the fact.

I used this product in conjunction with Drylock to create a beautiful 3D aquarium background (shown)
5/5

It was simple to change the coloration for shading purposes by mixing it in small increments. In addition, the sandy texture was exactly what I was looking for.

It was a slam dunk
5/5

This stuff is incredible. When I was looking for something to restore my front stone porch, I only found a few expensive options until I came across this. I got down on my hands and knees with a pair of long rubber gloves and a wash cloth and washed this into my porch. Mr Miyagi's style of wax on wax. After that, I let it air dry for the night. The next day, I noticed fine dust on the bottom of my shoe, but that was no problem because I could tell the coloring was sticking to the concrete stones, and I had planned to seal the color in with weather proof sealer. I waited two hours for the first coat of sealer to dry before applying a second coat with a chemical spray bottle from Lowes. PRESTO! My front porch is fantastic. It's been a few months since I applied the paint to my porch, and it still looks great. The color turned out to be a dark gray with hints of light gray.
