The sides of the block aren't frosted, but they do have a thin layer of wax on all four sides that covers a portion of the block and provides a surface for the glass block mortar to adhere to. Although I would not recommend removing this film, it is easily scraped off. These are Corning Glass Blocks from Philadelphia, PA. Mulia Glass Blocks are completely covered in a white coating on all four sides.
I had to drill a hole because there was no opening. However, I didn't want the large openings that some blocks have.
The hurricane specifications for Miami-Dade County are not met by these blocks. Dade

I was looking for a way to bring more light into an interior bathroom renovation on the second floor. In the stairwell, there is a window for me. To take advantage of the natural light coming in through the window, we chose a glass block wall. My internet search and other customer reviews led me to this Pittsburgh Corning product, which I purchased in the 8x8x4 size, but be warned, they are actually 7 3/4 x 7 3/4 x 4, as my contractor discovered the hard way. (Do not forget to take two measurements. ) ) In any case, for a clean floor-to-ceiling look, we used a frameless installation kit. The blocks produced by Pittsburgh Corning come in a variety of sizes and patterns. Because this is a bathroom wall, I chose a wavy pattern in the blocks to provide privacy. The blocks were delivered in excellent condition. In the parking lot, there were no damages. My bathroom remodel now has a "spa-like" feel thanks to the glass block wall. "like" sensation. My bathroom now has plenty of natural light. Only at night do I need to turn on the lights in the bathroom. Very good quality.
