It can be done, but slate must be sealed with 511 Porous Plus or another polymerized silicone sealer first. Using this product on glazed tile would be a mistake. Glazed tile doesn't require any sealer, and this product will not penetrate the surface. If you seal the grout lines, you may want to do so as well.
