Only one of the three buttons on both of our Genie garage door openers could be programmed. We have two garage doors, each with the same opener model. Only the first button on the remote can be programmed with the older style Genie garage door openers, according to reports. The other two buttons appeared to be partially programming the door, with the LED indicator on the garage door itself indicating proper programming, but the opener would not actuate when the programmed button was pressed later. Only one of the buttons on two older garage door openers can be programmed with the old style unit, according to the description of this model. After doing some more research on this topic, I discovered that other people were having similar issues. As a result, be cautious when making a purchase. br>br>The bottom line is that I returned it and will try another unit. This remote was purchased to replace one that I had purchased from Amazon in 2013 and had recently failed. The lights on the identical older Genie remote work, and the batteries are new, but the remote has simply stopped working and cannot be reprogramed. Even with an external Garage Door opener antenna (mounted outside in front of the garage), the range of this remote, both new and old, is inadequate. br>The instructions for Genie Programming are clearly incorrect! The clip is at the bottom of Genie's drawing of the remote, and the rightmost button is to be used. If you hold the clip to the bottom as shown in the instruction drawing (for a 1995-2000 model), you must actually press the LEFT button. (From the year 1997. ) As a result, using the Genie Instructions to program these remote controls becomes a trial and error process. After erasing the memory of my door opener in an attempt to get this new remote to work, I had to reprogram all of my other vehicle's remotes (which had been working fine and hadn't needed to be replaced since 2013, unlike this Genie Remote). br>br>Come on, Amazon/Genie. With these electronic products, you can get your act together. Provide tried and true instructions that work without the need for a lot of trial and error, as well as products that last more than a few years.

I have a Genie that was installed when my house was built in 1998, but my remote was stolen two years ago, so I've just been lifting the door since then. I expected getting a new remote to be a hassle to program, but then I came across this one. I read through all of the reviews and noticed that people with older units were having success, so I decided to give it a shot. The most difficult part for me was locating the button on the power head that I needed to press in order for the opener to sync with the new remote. I had to finally look for a YouTube video to find the button, but once I did, the programming took only 5 seconds. I'm glad I went ahead and bought it.

This is effective and has a wide range of applications. I like that it has a cylinder battery rather than the flat round ones (I'm no expert on batteries, but it appears that the larger ones have more juice). It has three buttons for three doors, but I only needed one. It's not a big deal; I'll make do. The instructions are included, but my model was a little different, so I had to look for the programming buttons, but I was able to get it set up without difficulty. A word of caution. Wear some 'work cloths' and have some wiping towels on hand when working on your garage door opener, as well as some 409 or grease cleaner on hand. I got a lot of grease all over me that seemed to follow me around all day and added to the overall setup of the device, which probably took about 10 minutes to set up but took closer to an hour to clean up grease from everywhere.
