How wide of a slot do they need to be to fit in? Will they fit ?

When using a standard biscuit joiner, you will create a slot that fits most brands of grooved decking perfectly. Five-eighths of an inch is more than sufficient.

What is the shape of the hole? Is it flat or Unfortunately, the picture does not tell me. On metal frames (such as Trex Elevations), Countersunk will not work. ?

Hole countersinks are part of the construction.

My first attempt at installing these last night was good. I lined them up against my home and it seemed simple enough until I attempted to install the board. Half of the clips wouldn't let the board in and when I adjusted them the screws broke off. My first perception of the clips I had left was that half of them have different shapes, so it would be necessary to reshape most of them to As long as I am spending $10 on these, I don't think I have a problem with doing it, but when I spend $40 on these, I expect them to work right out of the box. In order to prevent their flimsy clips from getting bent and damaged during shipping, you would think that their $40 price tag would warrant putting these in a box like their hidden fasteners. My first board ended up being pre-drilled and kitted out with deck screws, so far the hidden fasteners appear to be working, however the same screws are used there, and the few I have to loosen back up a little to adjust are starting to come It might have been better to return the hardware or give it to someone else.

This works well to hold grooved Trex, but the screw heads can round if overtightened

It works as it should and is very nice. But if you do decide to purchase it from South Shore Flooring, DO NOT. It was double the fair value price of other sellers, and I don't know why I did it. It would have been better if I had Additionally, I bought 36 pieces but got only 28 in the mail. There are 8 more at South Shore Flooring that they don't want to send me because I put them in storage assuming they were all there when I received them. I started the installation several months after I purchased it, and when I asked if they could improve it, they said that it was too late. I guess I trusted them too much, so this was my fault. Trying and failing is what you are supposed to do. I wish you all the best with your DIY projects.

Rather than buying the Mantis product, choose this one

The quality of these clips is very poor when compared with the Mantis End clips. These screws are the same ones used for their hidden fasteners. They are very bendable compared to the Mantis which is more spring-like. Screws like this are designed for singular use A few of them failed (square drive round out) and had to be backed out with vise grips. A second rate product is almost twice as expensive as a first rate.

Glad to find them. There are no big box stores that exclusively carry them. For a full set of fasteners, it is necessary to purchase the full box. I was pleased with the shipping timing and the product showed up quickly. This is in fact a better option than OEM because there are holes for the clamp to screw into. The price of 36 clamps is a little high.

I find this method to be more efficient! I used these clips by inserting them into the grooves and marking a hole through the board and then drilling through the board several times before using ceramic coated screws to firmly attachment it

Instead of using weak stainless screws through the clip itself, I used ceramic coated screws to anchor it.

For composite decking that has grooves, these clip edges are great. Due to this, your deck frame must be completely and completely square in order to align them. I found mine to be slightly off, so that caused all of my boards to be As long as you have a straight frame, you can use these and they will hold the outside board without being visible.
