I'm not familiar with previous models, so I can't make any comparisons. This is the company's largest and toughest recovery product, in my opinion. Of course, the cost is higher, but older models have been known to split under heavy 4x4 use. When a Jeep got stuck in the snow on a Colorado mountain trail, I used mine to help. Towing alone was ineffective. With my FJ, I've yet to require them.

Everything goes according to plan.
However. I used to have Maxtrax MKIIs and loved them. However, I had to replace them after assisting far too many people, who spun their wheels and melted the knobs off. Because the Maxtrax became so popular as a result of the IG overlanders, it didn't make sense to buy them again at $300 a pair. So I've had two pairs of TRED 1100s (which cost the same as one pair of Maxtrax) that have served me well for the past four years. There were no major issues. However, a friend persuaded me that I needed to upgrade to the TREDPros because of their lower stack height and bomb-proof reliability. br>br>So far, I've used my pair in five recoveries, some of which had wheel spin. The boards appear to have never been used! They're so good that I just bought a second set to be safe.
