The panel is placed on a counter-balancing platform that "hangs" flat on the carrier. The panel's weight causes this platform to pivot. This pivot effectively grips the bottom panel by "pinching" it. When climbing stairs, this bottom grip, combined with your hand gripping the top of the panel, keeps it from sliding. To see a photo of this grip in action, go to the product image gallery.
The maximum thickness for proper use is 1-inch. 1/4". It *might* be useful with a thicker piece if the hook doesn't go all the way around, but it would most likely slip off and be unsafe.
I only use one because I'm a big guy and bending down all day hurts my stomach. I only use it to pick up sheet rock off the ground, and I usually tilt the sheet rock and use my foot to lift it. It's pretty strong for what I put it through. I do commercial sheet rock, and doing it one by one takes too long, and time is money.

This is a simple device that allows one person to carry a large sheet of plywood or drywall by reaching down to the bottom and carrying it to your side; it's similar to being able to extend your arm a few feet to reach. The handle is comfortable to hold and can be adjusted in length. It's a simple device that does a lot of work.
It doesn't work for me in any way. It pushes the top of the board away from you, so you have to fight to keep it in place while carrying the sheet. It has no effect on weight distribution (and isn't advertised to do so). Because you are not turning your hand around and getting splinters, it is slightly better than carrying by hand. A simple little mini dolly has proven to be a better option for me. Mine travels well across the yard, supporting the weight and providing all the functionality required for transporting heavy sheets of material.
I've used it to transport both sheetrock and multiple sheets of 0. It's very simple and very smart. 09- paneling 1 inch thick It's quite effective. Simply slide the bottom "hook" under the panels and use the handle to raise them. It also doesn't take up a lot of room in my shop, which I appreciate.
Allows me to lift panels without assistance. I wish there was a way to make it a little shorter, but I'm happy with the product overall!.
We have a lot of large panels, and they're great!.
I used it to move sheets of 5/8 drywall around my garage while I was finishing it, and it worked perfectly.
Positioning heavy sheets and connecting the lift on your own is difficult.
I feel like I have more control over a sheet than I do with my hands, and I haven't tried a solid carry-on yet. I haven't handled either type of moving sheet goods yet, so I can't compare them.
