Questions & Answers

Is it true that it reaches a height of 16 feet?

This is a hazardous product! In the process of hoisting it up, it falls apart. After 5 sheets, the wheel bent, the lever spring on the legs broke, and the bolt on a lightweight pie shape 1/2 in drywall snapped in half and ricocheted off the walls last night. It was almost as if the user had been hit! It was possible that he would lose his eye! I would not recommend this product! Scary!

Where can I get replacement wheels for this lift, as the bearings have failed?

Great question, I'm not sure, I've never had any problems with mine, but you could try Harbor Freight for a similar model.

Is it possible to lift a 4x8 sheet up through a 23" gap when it's in the upright position?

If you need it to, it can hold a sheet at a 90-degree angle vertically.

I need to replace the caster wheels on this lift; could you tell me what size they are?

My lift's casters are approximately 4 inches tall with 1 inch wide wheels. I hope you've found what you were looking for.

Expect low quality because it is dangerous and flimsy
3/5

When I first raised this lift, it broke. Everything was put together correctly, but when I tried to lift it empty on level concrete, the bottom brackets bowed out and the lift fell over. This was not only inconvenient because I needed to complete a project, but it was also dangerous. I informed the seller of the problem, but they refused to accept the item back because it was within the 60-day return period. I explained that I had not had the opportunity to use the lift right away, that it was clearly brand new, and that I had the original packaging, but they refused to accept selling a defective item. BUY THIS LIFT AT YOUR OWN RISK! The bottom tabs that essentially keep the mast vertical are light pieces of tin, and there's no way it'll hold up to lifting drywall.

It's only suitable for use on ceilings
3/5

This isn't ideal. You will need a wrench to complete the assembly. Second, while it will reach high ceilings, it will be useless against ANY wall because the arms will not tilt to near vertical. It's difficult to load drywall sheets onto it because the cradle won't lower low enough for a sheet of drywall to be easily placed on it. The included instructions are illegible and appear to be for a different size lift. The little device that is supposed to keep it from rolling backwards as you load the lift doesn't even touch the floor, so it doesn't work at all (wheels are too tall, perhaps?). I've rented lifts before and figured I'd save money by buying one for a big project, but I may still need to rent one for the walls. If you're installing drywall by yourself, skip this item.

It's important to pay attention to the connections; otherwise, you might end up in danger
3/5

I've used a lot of drywall lifts in the past (during my construction days), so I'm not new to this. First, it will lift up high, as the advertisement claims, albeit in a dangerous manner. I started to wheel the thing into place with an 8-foot sheet on it at its lowest height when the pin that is supposed to keep the legs open dis-connected. When the lift was fully engaged, the legs began to fold while pushing, and the lift toppled, shattering into three pieces. I'm glad I've learned not to roll when I'm stretched out high. The safety that holds the legs open in the open position is at best weak (the spring that is supposed to hold the latch pin in place is pitiful!). Novices may make this mistake and be seriously injured. To keep it in the locked position for my safety, I'll use a rubber shim). Because there is no safety pin to keep these two parts together during a topple, the upright will easily separate from the legs. A "post" connects the upper platform (where the panels are installed) to the top of the upright. It simply sits in the upright and spins freely, which is fine, but there should be less play in its "socket. " It's swaying a lot. br>The hinge that allows the unit to transition from loading to flat ceiling installation is also shaky. br>When these wobbles are added together, the platform becomes extremely unstable. I believe that the idea of a quick setup and breakdown (which this will do) has put safety at risk to an excessive degree. I'm glad I wasn't hurt in the process of getting out of the way. I had a sneaking suspicion this would be cheap and flimsy, but not to the point of being dangerous.

This is an excellent piece of equipment
5/5

This panel lift was purchased and used in Colorado to drywall a small house. This product was simple to put together and use, and it allowed me to panel 600 square feet of 4x8 sheets (each weighing 52 pounds) in two days by myself. By the way, my age is 70. The lift was simple to operate and allowed the user to place the sheets in both tight spaces and open ceilings. The lift will tighten the sheets against the wall, allowing the user to easily and precisely fit adjacent sheets. The lifter allows the user to back off the sheets, allowing for precise fitting. The lift is capable of carrying full or partial sheets with ease. It's simple to load because the design makes it possible for one person to load and position a sheet safely and securely. I usually loaded the sheets from a 4 ft work table in front of the device, because it was easy to get the scents onto the table and lean them against the frame. The sheets could then be easily slid onto the frame as it supported the weight. Even if you have to leave the length or edge of the sheet hanging out to accommodate an irregularly shaped ceiling, the frame that holds the sheet will lock flat and the sheets will not slide off. When fully loaded, it moves smoothly, with the wheel base and top frame moving independently. It's impossible to lose a sheet by overbalancing the load, at least with 4x8 sheets. It's so well-designed that it fits into surprisingly small spaces with ease. It's heavy, so it's solid, but it comes apart into three pieces. I have a lot of construction "stuff" because I usually work alone and need to supplement my income. This is a fantastic piece of equipment that I would enthusiastically recommend. There is only one minor issue that I believe the manufacturer should address. The lateral supports move in and out to accommodate sheets of various lengths, and there are spring-loaded stops that pin the supports in place with a hole drilled into the support; however, I wish there were MORE HOLES to keep the arms in place when lifting partial sheets into a narrow hallway. br>Using this device, I was able to complete the task quickly and in a fun way. Without this lifter, I would not have been able to complete the task.

If you're working on a basement, be cautious and read everything you can
3/5

It didn't seem to work very well, but I'll never know. It claims to be able to drywall ceilings up to 7 feet tall, which is impossible. Due to inadequate descriptions, I had to return it. I wouldn't attempt it unless your ceilings are at least eight feet high. I'm 5 feet tall. At its lowest setting, it was taller than me, and I'm 6'3". The only way to drywall a 7' ceiling is to slide the drywall up on top, but I don't think I'll need a drywall lift if I can do that. It's probably 6'5" tall, and you'll need 2 feet on each side to flip the drywall up after it's been lifted. So, perhaps 8. The ceiling height is 5 feet. Due to the box weighing 100 lbs with no real packing and not being well packed, pieces were slightly damaged. However, the quality of the product was excellent.
