A 3 wouldn't be able to wear them properly. 5 x 3. They come in a set of five and are designed to fit over any standard 4x4 white vinyl fence post.

No, I doubt it. It's the perfect size for my 5 in post.

Is it possible for you to affix the top?

It is possible to use a hot glue gun or PVC glue.

Is this going to fit on a real 4x4 wood post (3. 5in x 3. 5 in) or is it going to be flimsy and fall off?

It works fine, but make sure to use the glue that comes with it.
