I needed a new range hood because I was remodeling my kitchen. After looking at many hoods, I decided on this one. The price was reasonable, and it suited our needs in terms of appearance in our kitchen. The cord came out the back, and I needed it to come out the top, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. The issue was that the knockouts from which the cord had to emerge in order to be inserted into the top knockout were both too small for the cord to be pulled out and then inserted into. As a result, I had to splice the cord back together after cutting it. I sent an email to the company, asking if this would void my warranty. They haven't responded as of this review, so I went ahead and installed it myself. I had to hurry because I was on a deadline.

It's impossible to get service, and there's no way to contact the manufacturer. I bought this product six months ago, and while it seemed to work fine at first, it now has almost no suction, allowing the entire kitchen to fill with smoke when grilling on the stove top. Only an email address is provided by the manufacturer for reporting issues or filing a warranty claim. After a week, there was still no response. I've tried calling a number of independent repair shops, but none of them are willing to even look at the unit. I've come to the conclusion that my only option is to discard the device and replace it with one that can be repaired if necessary.

My concerns about this unit are as follows: The light only has one bright setting, and I wish it had two so we could use a lower power one as a nightlight. light; Because the metal is thin, the screws can easily bend or tear during installation. Because the screws included were so short, I had to go out and buy my own to ensure a secure installation; When standing directly in front of the unit, the finish on the front/side edges has faded from the construction, making it look really dull/ugly, making what was supposed to look beautiful look cheap; When you press a button, it makes a tinny, cheap sound. The fan is extremely loud, and the second and third settings don't seem to make much of a difference; To install/connect it to the power in the wall, I had to remove the power cord, which should have been an option.

The carbon filter is attached to the fan by a trap that looks like a mouse tap. On stainless steel, the permanent filter has a blue color frame, which is unsightly. br>br>Overall, you get what you pay for at $160.

UPS tore the box open, but there was no damage on the inside. MFR uses only the most basic packaging. Because there was no protective film on the stainless, I had to use surgical gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints all over it. The preinstalled AC cord was convenient until I realized it came from the back of the unit, rather than the top. If you need to move the AC cord, there is a knockout hole, but it is a lot of work. Because the hole for the rear access AC cord option is larger than the hole for the front access AC cord option, the grommet didn't fit, and I had to make my own. Because the AC cord was permanently installed with crimped connectors, I had to cut them off, strip the wires, and add wire nuts; however, others may not have all of the necessary tools and materials and will be forced to hire an installer. br>br>If your cabinet isn't flush on the bottom, which most aren't, you'll need to secure the fan to the cabinet with blocks of wood. The previous fan had flanges on the sides that allowed you to screw it to the bottom sides of the cab and avoid using wood blocks. br>br>The damper that comes with the fan is flimsy, and I decided not to use it because my previous fan didn't have one. It takes a lot of effort to remove the exhaust knockout on the back, and if you're not careful, you could bend the housing. br>br>Because the lamp only has one brightness setting, it can't be used as a nightlight. It does, however, provide adequate cooking light. The bulbs are an unusual type that I've never seen before, so replacing them may be difficult. br>br>The stainless finish is adequate but not exceptional; there are a few minor flaws and a stain on the front that refuses to wipe away. This is, in my opinion, just a minor upgrade over a builder's grade fan.

This unit improved the kitchen's appearance while also providing more light and airflow. The filters are attractive, and I needed replaceable bulbs. br>However, it isn't all rainbows and sunshine. This device makes a lot of noise. So, if you're looking for a good show at a low price and don't mind the noise, this is the place to go. If you require silence, however, find another location. Overall, the materials are inexpensive; the sheet metal is thin, but it isn't holding any weight, so it isn't a major concern. I took away a star for the ease of installation. The cord comes out the back and is hard wired in, despite the fact that there is a knockout in the top for power. I may have void the warranty by hacking it off and connecting it to the hardline, but I was well aware of the risks. Also, only the top of the unit has mounting points, not the back or sides. Because the old unit was side mounted, I had to install boards underneath it to make it work. If you're so inclined, you could drill holes in the side sheet metal, but I'm pretty sure any warranty would be voided right away. My car was rear-vented, and the damper didn't come with any screws. I found a few that work, but there are a few more to be aware of. Overall, a good product that, once installed, performs admirably for the price, despite the fact that it is quite loud.
