Hood has a peaceful atmosphere. It has a nice look to it, and the wiring is simple to set up. I'm a 71-year-old woman who installed it myself, including the wiring.
Because the exhaust fan vent closure flap never worked and the hole faced north, I replaced a 43-year-old mobile-home range hood that I had never been able to use. I had closed off the fan opening because that is where we get all of our extreme cold and winter wind. My cooking oils would freeze in the winter if I didn't keep the cabinets above open. Despite my best efforts, the grease continued to accumulate until I could no longer bear it. I was unaware that they produced a non-alcoholic beverage. Until I went looking for a new vent hood, I had an outside-vented hood range. Because the cabinet's lip is lower than the actual base, I had to use 3/4" plywood (2 pieces of 2" x 11") as "spacers" on both ends to level the hood. I attached them to the bottom of the cupboard with longer screws before attaching the hood to the plywood with shorter screws. Insulation and heating were provided by styrofoam. The original vent opening was sealed with duct tape. The fan is extremely quiet, and I could tell the difference between the low and high speeds, despite the fact that neither was particularly powerful. Because of the hot weather we've been having, I haven't had to use the fan yet because I haven't cooked any fatty foods on the stovetop. I prefer the white to the original hood's brushed aluminum. It makes it appear lighter and brighter, and it should be easier to clean each time. I installed this on my own, and the only time having assistance would have been useful was when I went to lift it up and attach it to the cupboard - There are only two colored wires (white and black), which you must only attach to the original white and black wires, and then attach the ground wire to the green screw. I am just over 5' and retired, but I made a couple of props to hold up the back and other side while attaching the first side. There are only two colored wires (white and black), which you must only attach to the original white and black wires, and then attach the ground wire to the green screw. A plate covers the wires, which is held in place by a small black screw. Attaching the hood is done with four short screws (although I used longer and wider threaded screws).
The range hood was recently opened and installed. So far, everything appears to be in order. There's a lot less noise than the one I demolished. The lighting is excellent. I bought a 65W LED and it's plenty bright for me. The design is simple and elegant. I haven't cooked yet, so I can't comment on suction power. At this time, I would recommend it; however, if I encounter any unsatisfactory issues in the future, I will write a second review. br>The only issue I encountered was that when I took Hood out of the box, there was no cord, forcing me to purchase the necessary cord and wire it manually. I wasn't expecting this and had assumed it would be a simple task. You'll be fine if you've worked with electrical wiring before, as I have. If not, consider hiring a knowledgeable and experienced professional. If you don't mind working with electricity, I recommend it.
Grandma is a year old. This is a very attractive oven hood. It was simple to put in place. Because my cabinet rims were too thin, and the screw placement fell to the inner portion, I had to add two pieces of wood to the underside of my cabinets in order for it to fit. So I paid $1 for a 24-inch long 1" x 1" stick at Home Depot. I used my miter saw to cut it in half, then glued and screwed it to the inside wall of the cabinet rims. It was a cinch to use. I lined up the hood, tightened the screws, and it held. I held the hood up to the cabinets, marked where the screws went, drilled holes in the wood, inserted the screws with the heads protruding slightly, lined up the hood, and tightened the screws. Installed a 60 watt bulb, wired the white to white, black to black, and grounded the fixture. We were back in business after re-starting the generator. It took me 15 minutes to complete the installation process. The filter is the ONLY aspect of the hood that I dislike. It's flimsy stuff, and I feel like there should be something more substantial since I have to clean it every now and then. Aside from that, the hood is flawless.
We don't use a range hood very often (only a few times a year), so we figured this would be a good solution to the problem. It serves primarily as a source of light. However, when we turned it on at high speed two nights ago, it barely ran. It's so quiet on low that I'm not sure it's even working. Unfortunately, our one-year warranty has come to an end. It's a pity that a product of this cost (vented systems are much less expensive) only lasts a year with very little use.
I expected a minor dent in the range hood based on the reviews, but I didn't expect this right out of the box. The box was in perfect condition, so I'm not sure why it's in this state. I'm not sure I want a replacement if it means the same thing will happen again.
It was a bit of a pain for me because I didn't realize the hood didn't come with a 120v cord, so I had to go back and order one. Prime 2 day shipping was promised, but it arrived on the third day because it was shipped from another state. This item is more expensive than similar items sold in other online stores. I was responsible for installing the power cord as well as the internal wiring. Color coding is a godsend, thank you very much. It matched the nautilus model to a tee when it was finished. Every mounting hole was perfectly aligned. The hood was much quieter, according to my mother, which was a huge plus. Everything was completed at the end of the day.
It's just a standard ss vent hood at the entry level. It's simply unbeatable for the price. The fit and finish are excellent, the fan is quiet, and the light is bright and well-illuminated in the kitchen. While it's running, you can talk to someone. After filling the underside of the cabinet with scraps of 1/2 inch plywood, installation was a breeze. Since almost all cabinets have a 1/2 recess or more under them, I assume everyone who installs this will have a similar issue. Because I didn't have any longer screws, I filled the gap under the cabinet with scrap wood. Overall, I would buy this hood again and recommend it to friends and family who are looking for a low-cost kitchen makeover.
