Questions & Answers

Is it simple to take it out of the garbage? I don't want it to be on the counter all the time, next to the stopper that no one replaces. ?

It's a piece of cake to get the genie out of the garbage disposal. Mine is permanently parked in the entrance. I always have a spare on hand in case anyone sees mine and wants one. Love it!

Do you replace the disposal's flexible rubber splash guard with this Danco device or do you use both at the same time?

The rubber splash guard is taken off.

Is there a way to use this as a water stopper?

QVC sells a model that can be used as a strainer or a stopper by twisting the top portion. It costs about twice as much as the standard model, but it's worth it if you fill your sink with water, such as dishwater.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the regular size and the large handle. ?

Thank you for getting in touch with Danco. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and we will work to correct the product information as soon as possible. The packaging is the only difference. It's the same product in both cases.

The discoloration comes first, followed by the peeling
3/5

This was purchased to replace an old "stuffer" that had reached the end of its useful life. I liked the low-profile design of this Disposal Genie when it arrived. The black finish and the low profile (it doesn't stick up out of the sink, so items sit flat on top of it). All good. br>br>Unfortunately, after less than two months, I noticed that this disposal plug had started to discolor (to a strange greenish-brown color). brown- a shade of gray) and then completely peel off. The entire black finish vanished in a matter of minutes. Nothing caustic has been used on it; only water and dish soap have been used to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. The water coming from the faucet isn't even hot enough to scald the finish. br>br>I threw away the black one, but I did re-use it. To see if the problem was mine or a manufacturer defect, I bought the same item in red; the red one took a little longer to discolor and peel, but it eventually did. I like the functionality, but if the Microban finish is this fragile, I'll have to go back to using a regular plastic garbage disposal. stuffers.

However, it did not fit my Whirlaway garbage disposal unit
3/5

Despite the fact that this item did not fit my disposal unit until I modified it, I find it to be a very useful device that I keep in the disposal opening all the time to keep things from falling inside; it is a good safety device. br>br>I watched the video above but this Danco Disposal Genie was simply too large to fit into my disposal unit.

Purchased as a bonus - We use it every day in the kitchen sink because it works but isn't perfect
3/5

I make sure that forks, knives, and other kitchen implements do not end up in the drain. It does, however, halt the majority of real-world activities. There's also international cuisine available. Anything larger than a pea, such as noodles, potato peels, or onions, will not make it until you pull it out of the drain. However, because the water flows down, grabbing it and pulling it out is simple and painless. The grey is rubbery (like a spatula) and has a grey color. It's designed to be used as a scraper for food. It's a little too 'bendy' for caked/burned-on crud in a pan, but it does the trick. While the disposal is still in the drain, you can absolutely run it. There is no conflict with the disposal blades. If you take it out to put a lot of heavy waste (think cabbage core) in the disposal without first turning it on, then put this in and turn it on, the violent grinding of the large items can cause the strainer to come out of the drain quite violently. It had gotten to the point where it had to leave the sink and land on the floor. I'm going to chalk it up to me doing something I shouldn't have done, but be on the lookout.

Does a good job
5/5

I used to have a wire mesh screen trap over my disposal drain, but it was always filthy, so I wanted something that would let the small stuff through but keep my utensils, caps, scouring pads, and other small items from falling in and having to be fished out with a tong. This is a fantastic method. Simply insert it into the disposal hole, and it will fit perfectly. The only issue I have with it is that it "floats," and if I try to put it in while the sink is still full of water, it will not stay until the water drains. So, if I'm draining water, I still have to make sure there's nothing in the sink that will end up in the drain. It fulfills my requirements, and I am pleased with my purchase.

Waste King Model 9950 is compatible with this part
5/5

My garbage disposal is from Waste King - The model is 9950. Yes, the Danco Disposal Genie is compatible with this Waste King and requires no modifications. My Waste King garbage disposal is one of my favorites. It is capable of chewing through virtually any material. The only aspect of the product that I don't like is the black splash guard that was installed, which warped almost immediately after installation, causing the petal-like design to become distorted. The splash guard, for example, tilts up rather than down in some places. This allows water and harder items (such as lemon and orange peels) to splash up into your sink or into your face, depending on where you are standing. I've included a picture to help you better understand my situation. On my model, I can't replace the black splash guard without removing the disposal from the drain pipe (which is a major pain in the neck). I've been holding my hand or a kitchen sponge over the drain for the past year to keep splashes at bay, but this isn't very sanitary. I was delighted to discover the Danco item on Amazon. It fits perfectly and prevents any splashing (even on lemon peels), while allowing water to drain freely. The Danco product is extremely durable and well-made, and I no longer have to be concerned about water splashing on my glasses. I chose the blue Disposal Genie, which is a lovely shade of blue with a hint of turquoise.
