I have found that the water level (in my filter) rises above its top edge if I brew more. The coffee grounds, however, don't flow down into the coffee pot because the filter happens to sit in the top of the coffee machine and is very tightly fitted to it. I believe that if the bottom of the filter were also made of the screen instead of being solid plastic, the water level would never rise above the top edge of the filter to begin with and the filter would drain a bit faster. I'm purchasing reusable filters for the first time. It doesn't seem to be built to a high standard, but it isn't extremely lightweight. Two of them are given to you. With the paper filters, it seems the coffee grounds were not as evenly saturated as they were with the coffee grounds standing on their own.
In addition to being economical, these filters are reusable, easy to empty, and they provide excellent service. It has been a long time since I have used them.
