Questions & Answers

Is it possible to attach this to a 1" round bar?

Without a doubt. It was a complete nightmare trying to mount it to the GMC Envoy crossbar, which is oddly angled. A round bar, on the other hand, should function flawlessly.

Will this fit a GMC Yukon XL from 2016?

As long as you have cross bars, I can fit in any car. It has a lot of uses.br>

Is it possible to stack a kayak, fishing rods, and paddles on top of this holder?

No, the paddles and fishing rods will not fit in the kayak.

Is it compatible with a Ford Focus from the year 2014?

The rack can be mounted on any car or truck. The crux of the matter, and the question that needs to be asked, is: Is it going to fit on your vehicle's crossbars? The ski rack is attached to the crossbars. Because the mechanism used to secure the rack is a clamp on either end of each individual rack, the wider the crossbar (not the length, but the smaller width of the crossbar) the less likely it is to be secured to it. Two screws on each end of the clamp secure the clamps around the crossbar. The width of any crossbar that will work is determined by the distance between these two screws. I don't have them with me to measure the exact distance, but I'm sure they were designed to handle a wide range of crossbars. The manufacturer might be able to tell you how far apart the clamps' screws should be.

There are three noteworthy items
4/5

Over the course of my 50 years, I've owned a lot of ski racks. And this rack looks a lot like the Thule rack I have on my other vehicle. My truck, on the other hand, required a longer ski rack. BUT KEEP THE FOLLOWING IN MIND:
1. The lock isn't quite as nice as the Thule's, and the key won't come out when the lock is open. When the lock is turned to the lock position, the key will come out.
- To put it another way, you won't be able to put your skis in your rack and then leave it unlocked.
2. In a week of Oregon weather, the hex head bolts rusted. I replaced all of my unit's bolts with new, high-quality rust-proof bolts. It was approximately ten dollars.
3. It was during one of our typical Northwest snowstorms that I first used it. The lock had become ice-cold and had become inoperable! So make sure to "treat" your locks and keep a couple of lighters in your car to keep the key warm. br> Apart from that, this rack is fantastic! br>The Thule is a higher-quality product, but it's worth it if you're on a budget and/or don't care. Take a chance!.

More washers and spacers would be beneficial
4/5

It's not difficult to set up. For the clamps, however, there were insufficient washers/spacers. My Mini has thick crossbars.

Simple to work with
4/5

Skis are well transported. This product appeals to me, and I would purchase it again. I've taken it on several 120-kilometer ski trips, and I frequently find myself driving at speeds ranging from 130 to 145 kilometers per hour on some sections. My ski rack usually holds a pair of skis and a snowboard on these trips, and the ski racks have performed admirably thus far. br>br>For starters, they are simple to install around cross bars. Take care not to overtighten the ski rack; You don't want to damage the crossbars by scratching them. The ski rack feet should only be tightened to the point where the racks are securely attached to the crossbars. I've added extra padding to the ski racks' feet with rubber pieces. The lock on the ski racks is also simple to operate. br>br> I wouldn't call it "secure" because all you need is an Allen-style connector. The entire ski rack must be removed with a wrench. The lock, on the other hand, deters the common thief if you leave your skis alone for a few minutes to stop at a rest area. The ski rack will not open while you are driving because of the lock. It was a little difficult for me to insert and remove the key when I first used the lock, but after a couple of times, I had no problems. It's important to keep in mind that locking and unlocking the ski rack is much easier if you keep the ski rack completely closed. One thing that bothers me about the key is that it appears to be non-functional. standard; if I ever lose the keys, I'm hoping a locksmith will be able to assist me. Last but not least, when you have skis in the rack, the rack pops open with the push of a button, just like it says. br>br>In a nutshell, these ski racks are fantastic; They're a lot better than trying to cram my wet skis into my small car.

Cheap Plastic Hardware does not fit well
3/5

This will most likely suffice for my needs, but it is not a painless solution. The Pros: br>br>The Pros: br>br>The Pros: br>b

- a low-cost alternativebr>- The Not So Good: The bars appear to be sturdy enough. br>br>The Not So Good:

- The crossbar's hardware is made of a cheap-looking plastic. When someone with a small pair of wire nippers or bolt cutters can simply cut through the plastic, it defeats the purpose of having a locking system.

- The phrase "universal fit" is surrounded by quotation marks. If your crossbars have an aerodynamic profile (think sideways teardrop), it will be difficult to position and stabilize them without purchasing additional hardware. br>br>- The screws used to secure the plastic to the crossbar are excessively long, to the point where if they shift, they could scratch the hood of my Outlander Sport. And it appears that things are going to change. Please refer to the preceding paragraph. br>br>In the end, I didn't want to pay $300 for my OEM product from the manufacturer, and as they say, you get what you pay for. However, I'll most likely have to spend another $20 - $30. To make this workable, you'll need $30 and an afternoon of cursing. br>br>If your crossbars have an oval profile rather than a teardrop shape, these may suffice. However, do not assume that your belongings are safe on top of your roof in an unattended parking lot. This plastic is an embarrassment.

As if you were a Thule! NOT! After reading other reviews, I was very optimistic about this product, and it is a perfect example of "you get what you pay for
3/5

" br>br>The plastic mounts that secure the rack to the car are brittle and poorly constructed. I snapped one while trying to tighten it because it didn't fit snugly on the rack. There is a lot of play when it's attached, which is why I was trying to tighten it when I broke it. Everyone understands that a loose rack on the roof of a car will rattle. Furthermore, despite being advertised as universal fitting, the clamps that attach to the vehicle rack do not fit my rack. Because the screws that came with the rack were too long and had run out of thread, I had to purchase new ones to fit my rack. This item was compared to a thule rack by someone. br>br> I'm hoping thule racks are better than this, because this thing is a piece of garbage.

With a little tinkering, you can make a 2008 Suburban fit
4/5

It'll do the job, but it'll take some tinkering to get it installed without damaging my car's top. My suburban couldn't handle the bolts because they were too long. They didn't hit the top of my car when it was empty, but I knew they would if I had skis on and hit a bump. br>br>To keep the nuts from loosening, I recommend cutting the bolts and using some sort of thread glue.

Installed on a Yukon Denali 2008, it's not very universal, but it's cheap
3/5

Tahoes and Escalades are similar in this regard. To begin with, the bolts were far too long and would have run straight through the roof. I had to halve them and re-cut them. The first trip up, I had to pour water on it because the lock was frozen and I couldn't physically put the key inside. br>Finally, the bolts are not locked in like I've seen on other models. br>Lastly, the bolts are not locked in like I've seen on other models. It's a pretty stupid design; if anyone with an Allen wrench can simply uninstall it and steal your belongings, then having a lock is pointless. br>On the plus side, it can accommodate four snowboards and is less expensive than even the most heavily used models I've seen. We'll see how long it lasts. br>.
