Questions & Answers

Is it possible for this jacket to be worn in the summer? I have a rubbery HH rain jacket that isn't appropriate for casual wear or spring travel. ?

The short answer is no, but it is quite light, allowing heat to escape when the hood is down and the front is open. To put this in context, I've spent a lot of time as an owner/operator in the commercial fishing fleet in the Pacific Northwest, and we go through gear like Denny's goes through eggs. Some of the HH products appeal to me. My recommendation is to wear this jacket as a light layer for the mild weather in the mid-thirties. Temperatures in the 50s are ideal for reducing wind and rain. It won't breathe, but it will provide some external comfort; also, HH runs small. To save money, I'm guessing they cut corners in the Chinese factory, making layering difficult. When they're designing new gear, I wish they'd ask us (6'3" and 250 lbs). It's fine for mild weather, to be honest. To put it another way, no one will rob you of your jacket. Good luck, and don't forget to have a backup plan.

The navy color option appears to be very similar to black in this image. Is it possible to rely on the color accuracy of the image?

The navy was never one of my purchases. I've purchased the men's black, men's yellow, women's light blue, and women's white in the past, and the pictures were accurate.

How do I secure the hood of this jacket by folding it or rolling it up?

There is a velcro tab (approximately 1 inch in diameter) on the back of the bag. on the back of the hood (approximately 3" in length). When you pull or open the tab on the hood, it passes through a piece of material near the label (at the back of your neck). Then you wrap it around itself and secure it.

Iam 5. Should I be able to get away with a size 8 and a chest size 46 x large?

What size t-shirt do you wear? The jacket is a little small. If you're wearing a size XXL t-shirt, If you're like me, an x-large jacket is a good choice. I ordered a large and gave it to my 5'5" girlfriend. 5' 10" is my height. Wear shirts that are a size larger than normal. More space in the armpit is preferable to me. I also dislike it when my jacket reaches my bellybutton when I raise my arms. No, I'm not overweight; I just like having a rain jacket to keep me dry.

Precip
5/5

or Men's Seven This, along with a light fleece, is all I need for most days in Portland, OR. This, along with a light fleece, provides all the wind and weather protection I require in temperatures ranging from the low 40s to the upper 60s. Because I have a tendency to run hot, your results may vary. I've tried a number of different light rain jackets from various manufacturers, and this one is currently my favorite. After more than a decade of faithful service, my last Helly Hansen finally wore out; unfortunately, that model (a soft shell parka with four exterior pockets that were perfectly placed for my purposes) is no longer available. br>br>The sleeves are fully lined with a soft nylon taffeta, so your arms don't get clammy when wearing a short sleeved shirt in warmer weather, which I appreciate. The rest of the torso liner is mesh, with a mesh pocket over the right chest (which I prefer over the left, as it was on my old Hansen, but you can't have everything). A full taffeta lining would have been nice, but it would have added weight to the jacket. br>br>I own four water-resistant jackets: this one, a Marmot Precip jacket from about seven years ago, a Marmot Sidehill convertible with MemBrain, and a new Marmot Precip with nano pro waterproofing. I haven't tried the new Precip yet, but it appears that the recipe for that jacket has changed a little, so it might be a little more breathable than the previous model. I don't think it's fair to compare the Sidehill and the Hansen because the Sidehill is significantly heavier, skewing any subjective measure of breathability. The Sidehill is simply a warmer jacket that requires the same amount of effort. However, the Precip and Hansen jackets are of similar weight, so I believe the Old Precip and this new Hansen jacket can be compared fairly. The HellyTech waterproofing, in my opinion, is more breathable than the old Precip's waterproofing. br>br>This jacket is attractive, fits well, and is made of a soft, quiet fabric that is both waterproof and breathable. This is a fantastic jacket for commuting and light hiking. The Precip, which is also available for a similar price, has a lot of appealing features. It is extremely light in weight. It folds up into a small package and fits into its own pocket. It has large pit zips, which are great for keeping cool while hiking. Pit zips are not available on the Helly Hansen. The Precip, on the other hand, is not fully lined. br>br>Perhaps the comparison isn't fair. I doubt it, given my ability to justify having both. One is an excellent all-around player, while the other is more technical. You won't be disappointed if you're looking for a good deal on a lightweight waterproof jacket.

I found exactly what I needed
4/5

I needed a new lightweight, water-resistant rain jacket, but I didn't want to spend more than $100. This Helly Hansen is up to the task. I'm 6'1" and weigh around 180 pounds, so this is a good fit for me. It shouldn't be too big or too small. On the front, there is a good zipper and a Velcro flap. Deep pockets and a solid hood. Inside, there's a nice mesh material to wick moisture away. It's also made of breathable material. I'm content with myself.

It has a nice appearance, keeps you dry, and is reasonably priced
4/5

I bought it because I needed a jacket that could be used as a raincoat or a windbreaker in both the cooler spring and fall months and the hotter summer months, and this jacket perfectly fulfills that requirement. This jacket is attractive, appears to be well-made, effectively sheds rain, is quiet, and is not overly bulky. The jacket has kept me warm and dry on several rainy days since I received it, and I've received several compliments on how nice it looks. I can't think of anything better than this for under $100, so I highly recommend it for the price. One piece of advice: heed the advice of many of the reviewers here and consider purchasing a size larger than usual. I'm 6' 2" and 210 pounds, so an XL usually fits me perfectly. However, I went ahead and ordered a 2X, and I'm glad I did because the 2X in this jacket fits me perfectly and allows me to layer a sweatshirt or fleece vest underneath for added warmth if necessary. If no additional layering is required underneath, this jacket has just enough room for a full golf swing. If you're looking for a good rain jacket or windbreaker that won't cost you a week's worth of groceries, this is the jacket for you.

Right, that's cool
5/5

Cape Cod. Isn't it cool? Wrong. I was born and raised in this community. It was raining and freezing. My young life was only warm and dry in the company of a tourist fem, as I was tired and frequently seasick. That was taken care of by HH. Yes, it is substantial. Dry, yes. Yes, I was adored. Since then, HH has been a part of my life, and I have never been disappointed. br>However, this latest offering is a cut above the rest. Lightweight, form-fitting, and unbelievably comfortable. It appeals to me. My preferred mode of transportation is a motorcycle. This has become an essential part of my riding equipment. Safely tucked away but still easily accessible Highly recommended and speed-tested in a storm. Buy it. Love it.

This is something I should've purchased a long time ago
5/5

Years ago, at Epcot, I first learned about the Hansen raincoat line. I've always admired the product's quality and the way the cuts fit, but I've never been able to get past the park's price tags. br>br>Let's jump ahead to the present. I'm in the market for a new raincoat to replace the one I've had for nearly a decade. I decided to do some research on HH on Amazon. I bought one because the prices were unexpectedly low. I couldn't be more dissatisfied with myself for having waited so long! This item would have been worth the price of admission to a Disney park all those years ago. br>br>This is one of those items where the value outweighs the cost. If you're on the fence about getting one, take that step forward!.

Lightweight, water-resistant, comfortable to wear, and pleasant to the touch
5/5

This is a fantastic jacket, with a silky feel and excellent water resistance. ness, as well as a sense of airiness. It has a nice fit, with a slimmer waist, plenty of shoulder room, netting on the inside to keep it away from your skin, and smooth sleeves that make it easy to put on and take off. It's great that there's an Rt on the inside. In addition to the normal hand pockets, there is a chest pocket. br>br>The zippers are YKK and are smooth, but they are a little small, so I added paracord pulls to the main zipper and pockets. I've already worn it in a couple of rain showers and it's kept me completely dry. The hood is comfortable to wear and adjusts quickly. It's a great rain jacket/windbreaker in general, and if this one gets lost, damaged, or worn out, I'll buy another.
