Questions & Answers

Do you think the magnet in this would damage diving computers, cameras, or electronics in any way? Do you mind if I thank ?

I am glad you asked, Ashley. Thank you Magnets are not safe around electronics, since they are strong enough to damage them. In case you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We appreciate you, thanks for using our service, divemaster Chris 866- It is 728,760

Are you going to be there long?

There are six quarters of an inch on it. In this picture, the string is not as long as in the picture, and if you try to loop it, it won't work.

Is the cylindrical structure made of any particular material? The rattle function might also fail, but is there an option to "bang something" if the rattle ?

Made from anodized aluminum, this shaker has a sleek design. In an emergency, you can bang your tank to keep it from leaking, but you might scratch or dent the

Do you think divemaster Chris meant for him to say that the magnet is too weak to damage electronics or upset compass readings?

That's not what I meant

This unit is easy to use and makes only for desired noise when desired
5/5

My only concern was if the noise maker would rattle too much unintentionally. I have seen quite a few variations of noise makers, but I was drawn to the one you have. As is common for land vehicles, it rattles quite a bit so I became concerned. As for underwater, you can be sure it works flawlessly. Despite being loud, it is a very easy device to operate. The one thing you have to do is "reset" the shaker after it has been used, which may not be obvious at first. The ball bearings are still loose after using the shaker. This means that you must invert it so that the magnets are reengaged and the shaker locks in place (listen for There are a few people who might ask why you need something like this when Despite my view that this is obvious, I'd like to share a story with you that might help you see this point. When I went on my first dive trip ever, I went to I was only certified as an open water diver for 30 feet (my final dive was done at 30 meters) and our dive master took us deeper than planned. Due to renting malfunctioning equipment at the time (another mistake), I was unaware of this. As I was walking back to my buddy, I lost my sight. We were at a distance of just a few feet. As I walked out of the stairwell, everything went black. rushed to grab my buddy, but being in the back, I was unable to signal for help. They had no idea anything was wrong with me, even though I was just a few feet away. In the course of following someone else (whom my dive buddy thought was me), and without the dive master keeping tabs on me, I must have been forgotten about. My vision went completely black for 3 minutes under water because I was left alone. My vision became blurry and double after figuring out that I had a mask squeeze. Thank goodness I cleared my mask and my vision returned (although very blurry and As I opened my eyes, I realized that I had not found my group. After I was redirected by the boat to my group, I rejoined them later. not even a single person knew I had gone and only became aware of my absence after I returned. A noisemaker would have escalated the situation and brought attention to me sooner rather than later. In spite of the many things that went wrong here, I was lucky to get some attention. There are certainly many more examples, but that is just one. It is because of this that I have a noisemaker for myself and my buddy, and I would no longer dive without it.

Shaker of good quality
5/5

In the past few years, I have used a air-integrated underwater alarm, but they have started leaking (even when I soak them in vinegar to remove corrosion) and so I started searching for something simple, not too expensive, and not air-dependent. A shaker like this is right up my alley. There is one bit of advice I should give. The magnet on the interior noise maker is VERY strong, which means it won't move and won't rattle around. To work, you will also need to shake it vertically under water for the interior ball to be released from the magnet, and for this to happen it takes a few strong shakes. When it has done so, shaking it is a great way to activate it. Yesterday, I used it on a dive and the sound carried The majority of people should be able to disengage the magnet if they can shake it hard enough. I am 71 years old and can shake it hard to disengage the magnet. If you need to disengage the magnet, I recommend shaking it hard before diving to get a sense of how hard you need to shake it.

This is a great place for scuba diving! All of this was quite helpful if you wanted to point out something The group in front of you can be intimidating, especially when it is moving fast
5/5

Fish were not scared away by the noisemaker, however we didn't use it when we were surrounded by sharks, so I can't tell for sure if it would scare them away. I have dived with this noisemaker six times now and it seems to be working great. The Mares name is wearing off after six dives, but it does not seem to be affecting.

For scuba diving, Mares Magnetic Shaker is the perfect device
5/5

That is a great device, and I like how it has a magnetic part to it. There was a device I had that was non-magnetized. The problem is it made a very annoying noise while you moved it. It is held in place by a magnetic addition so that it doesn't sound when you move it. If you want to use it, you just shake it to break the magnetic hold, and it will work as a regular shaker from that point on. From my perspective, a shaker of any kind is a must for every diver. A buddy can be attracted by it because it is the least expensive way to do so.

I love this shaker, but I find the price a little steep
4/5

The pros are Please note
*Pros Magnets worked well above the water, and disengaged well when shaken underwater. *Cons Please note
The price jumped from $24 to $32. A retailer I bought them from last October, 2016 for $70. 00, dropped it to $40 in December! This is painful! Please note
A better lanyard or a way to attach it to your gear would be beneficial.

I love the sound and the sound quality is It is very good at hearing, doesn't make noise moving around like many other people
5/5

It doesn't matter how noisy you are, or how shaken you are, until it needs to become noisy.

Let's keep silent until we need to use it
5/5

At first, I thought this was a gimmick, but every diver, with or without their buddy, needs it. Since my wife and I have been diving we have always used generic metal rattles to communicate underwater. When they slipped out of a pocket, they sometimes would "ding. ". There is a magnet in this device that prevents false rattles from occurring. You need a little time to get used to unlocking the rattle balls, but the process is now second-nature. Make yourself a favor, spend a little extra and get this upgraded rattle to help keep the dive quiet until it is needed.

This rattler is very nice
4/5

You have to work a little to get it to I bought this for my own personal use and it was very sturdy in manufacturing and very loud, so it was perfect for what I wanted. One detail is that the magnet is extremely strong and you actually have to work it vigorously to get it to release the balls and However, it serves the purpose quite well apart from that. I recommend it!.
