I don't know how they'll do it, but they seem like they can. As you can see, the perforations for the buckle tongue don't go through the rubber completely, which may be a casting artifact. It doesn't seem to affect the straps' functionality. As it develops, more will be revealed.

This did not last very long. The gear lasted just a few months before it broke, and I'm pretty thorough when I wash it. The experience was not worth the money. The search for a new one has now begun.

I purchased these to replace the straps on my dive knife that I lost. They worked fine. As others have mentioned, the holes are closed when you tighten the straps, but they open when you release the straps. When I tried to mount it on my leg, I had no problems.

Despite the manufacturer's instructions, the buckle at the seams starts falling apart within five minutes of being opened. It is also not pre-punched with holes for the buckle The punches have been punctured, so you have to pull them out by hand. Then I couldn't rely on them to hold my dive knife in place. Sure, it was $5, but really? However, this is still true. It's good to keep in mind that the straps are rather thick, so they may not fit your knife.
