Both. It has a zipper and a drawstring, which I like because I can adjust the waist to my liking. The pants have a lot of stretch and are very comfortable. This morning, I wore them to my yoga class.
They sit just above the tops of my hip bones when worn by me. I could have gotten away with a size 12 if I had ordered it. I have a few pairs of them because I like them so much. They're easy to care for and don't wrinkle. They're great for travel and keep you cool even in the heat of summer.
They have a slight water repellency and are quick to dry. They're incredibly relaxing. I've been wearing them for the past two weeks all over Europe.
I bought the Columbia Anytime capris in Nocturnal, a dark blue (but not navy) that has since become one of my favorite colors (I bought two more pairs)! It's all blue, no purple, and it's a "muted" blue, in my opinion. It's a lovely piece that can be used in a variety of ways.

I bought two more pairs because they were so good. They're very light and roll up into a small space, making them ideal for traveling. Because they were nylon, I was able to wash them in the bathroom sink and dry them quickly so I could go on another walking tour the next day. I usually don't like lightweight nylon fabrics because they pucker at the seams after a few wears and washes, but that isn't the case with these. They may appear lumpy on the hanger, but once on, the lumps vanish and the pants look smooth and nice; I wouldn't be embarrassed to wear these to dinner with a nice top. The boot cut looks great on me, who is 5'7" and 150 pounds and wears a size 10. After machine drying, the nylon in other nylon pants tends to draw up and become too short for me, but these have kept their length! br>br>Okay, it sounds like I like these a lot, so why only four stars? They have a zipper, a snap, and a string tie at the waist, and I've found that sometimes I've tied the drawstring so tight that the pants pucker underneath to get the waist snug enough (they tend to loosen throughout the day). As a result, these pants are usually worn with an untucked shirt. These are light, airy, and simple to care for. A victory, victory, victory! br>br>Please use the voting buttons to let me know if you found this review helpful. I'm a big fan of these pants. I'm 5'5", 140 lbs, and have a curvy figure, so I ordered a size 8 in these. They're a little loose, and you could size down for a more stylish fit, but sizing up from my usual size 6 was a breeze. It's a breeze to get in and out of them. These were purchased for a long trip out to Yosemite, Sequoia, and King's Canyon from the east coast, so they had to be 1) easily packable and take up little space, 2) reasonably stylish, as they would be my only long pants, 3) dry quickly and function well for hikes in a variety of temperatures, and most importantly 4) be comfortable for traveling and hiking. In a nutshell, these pants were a success in every way. 1) I purchased two pairs of shoes - "Pulse," a grey with purple undertones, and black. Because they're so light, they're easy to pack and don't take up a lot of room. They also release wrinkles after a few minutes of wear, so you can roll them up pretty rough and they'll still look good later. br>2) I sized up a little on these for ease of movement, as I previously stated. I was worried that these would make me look like I was wearing scrubs all the time, but they're actually quite nice. Sizing up a little, there aren't really any underwear lines, and the boot cut fit shows that you still have a figure, so they look good in an "outdoorsy" way. br>3) They dry out beautifully. They can be washed in the sink at night and dried the next morning. Also, while I was wearing these pants, my kids splashed water on my husband and me, and my husband's jeans were all streaked with water; My pants were covered in beaded droplets that had fallen off. Also, when I got stubborn dirt on these, I was able to simply rub the spot away with a wet sponge. However, these pants continue to breathe exceptionally well and were extremely comfortable in the desert (Death Valley, in particular). They're light and airy, don't hold moisture or sweat, and have a good SPF rating. One thing to note is that while the Pulse color worked well in the desert, the black feels slightly hotter in direct sunlight. These pants are extremely thin on cold nights and are not designed to withstand the elements. If you plan on hiking in varying temperatures, I recommend bringing a thin base layer to wear underneath these. Last but not least, comfort: these are the most comfortable hiking/traveling pants I've ever owned. They have a snap button and a drawstring, making them fairly adjustable. As a result, they are very forgiving of days spent hiking and climbing, as well as nights spent eating junk food and drinking beer. The drawstring allows for more size variation, and sizing up a little gave you a lot of range of motion. I didn't have to tuck them under my heel in flip flops because I'm 5'5 and they didn't drag on the ground when I wore hiking shoes. br>br>Overall, these are excellent hiking and travel pants. I haven't given them many washes, so I can't speak to their long-term durability, but they were extremely comfortable and performed admirably.
These pants are perfect for me! It's extremely comfortable, and the fit is excellent! I'm 5'5 and 145 pounds, with a curvy athletic build and a lot of weight in my hips, rear, and thighs. These pants are perfect; I ordered a size 8 regular, which is the size I normally wear, and they are roomy. I'd get a size 6 if these were everyday pants, but they're perfect for hiking and canyoneering, and I can't say enough good things about them. br>br>They won't fall off because of the drawstring at the waist. In Zion Canyon, I wore these for a 13-hour canyoneering trip. They were quick to dry and allowed me to move around freely. Because they look so good and are so comfortable, I also wear them as every day pants.
