Questions & Answers

Do you know how to put the spring, which is sold separately, together? For riders weighing more than 180 pounds, I purchased the red spring. Thanks?

My spring came with instructions, which were supposed to come with it. I replaced mine last year, but there's a theaded plug in the bottom of the stem that I believe has a slot for a straight edge screwdriver, if memory serves me correctly. When unscrewing the plug, make sure you count all the rotations. Remove the old spring; if any other parts are present, keep track of the order in which they were removed. The old spring, I believe, was caked in grease. Enough that I used my fingers to wipe away the grease and apply it to the new spring I installed. Replace the old spring with the new one, making sure everything is in the correct place. Return the threaded plug to its original position by rotating it the same number of times as it was removed. From there, you can tighten or loosen the plug to make the spring firmer or loosen the plug to relax the spring. After making your spring adjustments, I believe you should have at least two threads visible. When riding, the seat will not give as much as a full suspension bike's seat would, but it will soften the impact of any bumps you encounter. You don't want the suspension part to bottom out when you're sitting on the seat because then there's no room for it to travel when riding over rough terrain, so I installed the blue spring in mine and adjusted it slightly to allow it a little more give.

Is there a dust jacket included with this?

Yes . I've had mine for over a hundred miles on two bikes, with a couple of crashes in between. The cover is still in good condition.

Is there an adaptor included for different seatpost diameters?

No, but it is available for less than 5 USD.

Is this a black seatpost or something else? Chrome? etc.. ?

Black is the color of the seat post and its components. The spring and suspension system are hidden behind a black cover.

Selected User Reviews For Suntour SR SP12 Suspension seat Post

It's probably better for people who are heavier
3/5

I know this gadget has a lot of good reviews, but if you're as light as I am, you won't be as impressed. I'm about 135 pounds, and even with the "light"/soft suspension spring in this thing (which I had to order separately from Suntour for about $15 [and which is supposed to be rated for people from 100 to 200 pounds]), I'm still not comfortable. The dampening is adequate but not exceptional (140 pounds). to be precise: The device has a 2 inch travel range, which is fantastic. On a huge bump, however, I can only get about 3/4 of an inch of dampening due to my light weight. As a result, there isn't a significant difference. If Suntour—or anyone else, for that matter—offered a softer spring, I'm sure it would be fantastic for lighter men and women like me, but that isn't the case.

I never write reviews, but this post is incredible because it is so freaking comfortable
5/5

I am 5'11" and weigh 280 pounds, and it fits me perfectly; the level of softness or firmness can be adjusted at the bottom of the post. I'm never going to be without one again. I've ridden full suspension Treks that don't even come close to the smoothness of this thing. In my opinion, it is a little on the pricey side, but then again, everything is expensive these days with all of these greedy CEOs.

It's not wobbly, but it's smooth
5/5

I recently purchased a used commuter bike in order to speed up my urban commute while also getting some exercise, but the road bumps hurt my back on the first day of riding to and from work. I considered returning the bike, disappointed, because I couldn't justify spending money on a mountain bike (full suspension or not). I discovered the suspension seatpost phenomenon while searching the internet for information on cushioned seats. This seatpost was installed as soon as it arrived, and I took it for a test ride. Wow! What a distinction! Even when going over larger bumps, the ride was smooth and I barely felt the seat move. I used to own two mountain bikes, a hardtail and a full suspension, and it felt like I was riding a full suspension. I'm so glad I found this; I'm looking forward to pain-free commutes and a good workout now!.

The mountain bike frame is better than expected, and it will be upgraded first (before the seat)
5/5

I don't do reviews very often. br>br>Selection (things to remember): I purchased this seat post myself, and this is my honest review without anyone asking me to do so, etc. br>br> br>Make sure you get a seat post with the right diameter and length (mine is 27. 2 millimeters / 350 millimeters Measure the diameter of your current seat post, and from my experience, I'm glad I paid attention to the bottle mount on the seat tube (rather than the down tube) on the two bikes I was going to install it on. As a result, I had to go with 350mm rather than 400mm (because the mounting screws would go through the seat tube and get in the way of the seat post). br>Be aware that this seat post is only suitable for seats with rails (7mm). br>Also keep in mind that the suspension mechanism will limit your ability to lower the seat to the same level as it was before installing this seat post. br>br>Installation (simple): br>If you choose the right size (diameter and length), installation is a breeze and takes only a few minutes. Adjustments (simple): br>br> br>After reading numerous reviews, I had no idea what to expect in terms of suspension performance and adjustment. When the suspension seat post arrived, all I did was double-check the preload adjustment and set it to the lowest setting (for the most comfortable ride). It's ideal (at least for riders weighing 165 pounds or less). br>br>Excellent performance: br>I attempted to ride on so-called "so-called" so-called "so-called" so- So far, I'm impressed with the local roads. It does exactly what it says on the tin and "smooths" the road. I notice it mostly because my seat has no springs or elastomers and thus feels like a brick on a seat post; it was unbearable before I bought this suspension seat post. Now I can finally enjoy the ride (10-miles). 15 miles) without experiencing any discomfort on the way back to the house. It made the ride so much more comfortable that I now need to figure out how to fix the front suspension as well. And. The upgrade of the seat itself fell to second or third place on the priority list. br>I haven't tried any other types of riding (mountain or otherwise) so I can't comment on how well it performs in those situations. Alternatives taken into account: br>br> br>I tried a number of seats (comfortable, with suspension, elastomers, narrow, wide, very wide, etc. ) before settling on this seat post, which I had never considered before. after getting the seats and realizing there isn't a single comfortable seat I can find (including the fact that some of them won't fit on my bike due to non-standard mounting), I decided to make my own. Rail spacing must be uniform! ), I became intrigued by this seat post, which I am glad I did. I bought the first one (not on Amazon) and immediately decided to buy a second one (here on Amazon) after testing it for an hour. br>br>Flexibility is a bonus: br>If I ever want to upgrade a bike but the new one doesn't have rear suspension, I can always transfer this seat post (and save the money I would have spent on a bike with rear suspension). Yes, there is a difference between bikes with rear (or full) suspension and those without, but for me, this seat post will suffice. Packaging and delivery: br>br> br>Packaging was fine; the seat post arrived in one piece and undamaged. As expected, the package arrived quickly. br>br>Satisfaction: br>br>Satisfaction: br>br>Satisf br>10 out of 10 (I'd tell a friend).

It works! Because my bike is quite unforgiving, I strained my right quad doing shock absorption on my bike while touring
5/5

At the age of 60, I had traveled approximately 6000 miles before deciding that I needed to take action. I can now sit and pedal through even the worst bumps without being thrown out of my seat, and my hands and shoulders are less stressed. I tried it on the worst road near me (a number of times) where I had to stand up to pass or risk being thrown out of my seat, and I just cruised through. It's also subtle in that it allows me to keep pedaling while the seat does its job. This year's European trip is something I'm really looking forward to. This merchant included the seat post, instructions, and neoprene cover in the package. I'm 150 pounds and had no problems with it.

It's ideal for bikes with rigid frames
5/5

The seatpost came in an OEM bag, with no cardboard box and only the instructions in a plastic bag. br>br>Installation and setup were simple; simply remove your old seat post, install your seat to the rails, and install in the frame. Sit on the bike and adjust the preload to where it feels comfortable, then bounce it. You should be about a third compressed when sitting on it normally, but if you need to adjust it, there's a screw in the bottom of the post to add or remove the preload. When compared to a traditional solid seatpost, it does shift the seat back slightly when seated, but only by 1-inch. Depending on your weight, you can expect to gain 3 inches. br>br>On the road, it eats the bumps that take the fun out of riding, and it was well worth the money. It does add the annoyance of having to lubricate the moving parts on a regular basis, but it's well worth it.
