I have an african american daughter who has a "poofy" head and the helmet does not fit her. The helmet does not protect her head effectively whether her hair is in a ponytail or down. Her thick, poofy hair lifts the helmet from her head and does not keep it in place.
For extra protection, many of the hard plastic parts on the inside of the lid can be adjusted and adjusted to fit. It is the perfect set of knee and elbow pads for my 7 year old son.
