Questions & Answers

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A SKEWER?

This is a skewer made specifically for the Kurt Kinetic trainer. For quick release, your bike's rear wheel may already have a skewer. By replacing that skewer with this one and following their (Kurt Kinetic) instructions, you can eliminate the possibility of the bike slipping off the Kurt Kinetic trainer. The last thing you want is to be going 30 to 40 miles per hour on your stationary bike and the wheel slips off the trainer, causing you to crash into and break household objects, as well as injure yourself.

Is this something that could be used as a bike lane trainer?

It should theoretically work, but I'm not sure about that particular trainer.

Will this fit 29" rims on a mountain bike? Tires that are 2" in width?

No, I don't believe that's the case. Not sure. It was purchased for my gravel bike (Specialized) with disc brakes, which I was unable to use. In order to work on it, the bike shop had to order a $40 one.

I have a saris mag trainer and a mountain bike; can I use this to accommodate both?

Sorry. Only on road bikes and on the Kurt Kinetic trainer have I used these skewers. The Saris mag trainer is a new one on me.

WARNING - My bike broke while I was riding it - VERY DANGEROUS! First and foremost, this is NOT a genuine Kurt Kinetic skewer, as depicted in the seller's photo
3/5

As a result, the photographs used to promote this skewer are deceptive. If Kurt Kinetic's skewer design or supplier has changed, the seller must update the image. The skewer that comes with the trainer is shown in the seller's photo (we have one on another bike - In the second photo, you can see me on a red bike. JoyTech is the manufacturer of this item). The lever is visible in the one I received, but it snapped, revealing a completely different lever. Second, I began using it in early May, and the skewer rod snapped after 16 rides on the trainer - while on the bike I wasn't hammering hard; I was just sitting there when "POP"! It's a good thing I didn't buy this to use outside because the results would have been disastrous! Of course, this harmed my drop-dead gorgeous drop-dead gorgeous drop-dead gorgeous drop-dead I'm not fond of the out/frame. br>PLEASE DO NOT BUY ONLY FOR SECURITY REASONS! It's time for Amazon to de- this item should be added to your list br>Of course, I'm past the return window, but I'm sharing this to let others know.

Perilous
3/5

My son was excited to spin away and start sweating while watching movies on the trainer, which I've had for years. Win win! So we go online to get a skewer for his bike, only to find that they're all sold out. No problem, Amazon has a similar item for the same price. They get one star because the shipping was quick. br>br>I put this on my son's bike and was unsure how the clasp would feel when closed. There is usually some resistance before the clasp settles in and lets you know it's secure. This felt more like the tension was constantly rising and never truly settling into a final position. There was no tension at all when the connection was loosening even a smidgeon. There isn't a happy medium. That struck me as strange. There's nothing to be concerned about. It is now operational. br>br>After removing the bike from the trainer, I figured we'd keep the skewer on his wheel. When I pick up the bike after a few days, the back wheel has come loose. I thought to myself, "WTF?" I'm confident that I've locked the steering wheel in place. I would never leave a bicycle in such a state. I look for the locking mechanism but can't seem to find it; This is due to the fact that it is several feet away. It had simply popped off the bike, and I shudder to think what might have happened to my son if this had happened while he was out riding. br>br>I'm sick of cheap knock-offs. away from trash Isn't it possible that I should give them another star because the return is so simple and free?.

THIS IS NOT A GOOD ITEM TO BUY
3/5

DO NOT TRY IT! I occasionally forget to remove my trainer skewer from my road bike, as I did this morning. This skewer broke while I was climbing Mt Eden in Cupertino; thankfully, it broke just before the descent, but I was clipped in and caught off guard when my chain came off and my wheel locked up, so I tipped over and landed with my full weight on my arm and elbow. br>br>My arm is bruised and hurting a lot. With my full weight on it, I hyperextended it, pulled it back, and then slammed my elbow into the concrete. Topping it off, I broke two spokes on my carbon rear wheel. br>br>I believe this seller went from selling a genuine Kurt Kinetic Skewer to selling a fake one with the same image. WARNING: USE CAUTION. If this had occurred after I began bombing down the mountain, I could have been seriously hurt, if not killed. It's not worth it to save a few dollars. This is a bait and switch, so don't fall for it! HORRIBLE.

Instantly, I broke
3/5

After only one use, the skewer snapped during a ride. It was a complete letdown. br>I've had the trainer for a long time and simply misplaced my original skewer while moving. Never before has one broken on me.

GARBAGE! BUYING THIS PRODUCT IS A MISTAKE! BROKE FOR THE FIRST TWO TIMES OF USE! This skewer was purchased for use with my Kurt Kinetic Trainer
3/5

br>br>When I first tightened it, it broke, as seen in the photo (and apparently in many other people's photos). br>br>After that, I sent an email to Amazon and returned that item. I was given a new one. Then the new one failed in the same way. br>br> I contacted Amazon and received a refund. br>br> br>br>This is something you should not buy. This is not to be used. This skewer is so bad that it has compelled me to post my first Amazon review. Purchase directly from a reputable seller (I assumed this was the reputable Kurt brand) or a bike shop. br>br>In the best-case scenario, it snaps when tightened. In the worst-case scenario, it fails while you're on the train. br>br>In the worst-case scenario, it breaks while you're driving.

After a few months, it was no longer viable
3/5

For about 6 months (2 rides per week on the trainer? ), this skewer appeared to be fine. It broke while I was riding, right near the clasp, and I fell off my bike, thankfully unharmed, but it could have been much worse. Purchase this item at your own risk.

It fits perfectly with my 700c road bike for use with a trainer and is a great price
5/5

This is precisely what I required in order to use my previously owned trainer. br>br>$50-$100 br>br>$100 br>br>$100 br There are 70 Kinetic skewers available, and I debated whether or not to purchase one. br>IT IS NOT REQUIRED! br>On my 700c wheel, this much cheaper skewer works perfectly.

BUYING IS A MISTAKE
3/5

BUYING IS A MISTAKE. These aren't Kinetic products in any way. I bought these because I alternate between road and tri bikes and having the same setup made things easier. I used 1 about 5 times before hearing a popping noise. I put the second one on and went to tighten and pop it, glad I was on the trainer and not outside. It happened once again. PRODUCT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I'm a regular rider, so installing and using it was a no-brainer for me. THIS PRODUCT HAS TO BE REMOVED FROM AMAZON. This could have been disastrous on the highway.
