It's sewn in and can't be taken out. Padding is sewn into a spandex liner, which is sewn into the cycling underwear. From the listing photo, I've learned to wear them inside out. Instead of the pad, the breathable fabric is against the skin all over, keeping the skin relatively dry. In the autumn and the cooler summer months, they've become my go-to bike shorts. I wear simple non-cotton "tactical" cargo shorts over these because I mostly mountain bike.

Padded Shorts are a great addition to any wardrobe

I'm a beginner when it comes to riding a bicycle on a regular basis. These padded bike shorts are fantastic; the fit is flattering and the sizing is accurate. I am 5'2" and weigh 174 pounds, so I ordered a size L. The fact that they don't roll down at the waist/tummy area is one of my favorite features. When I wear these shorts, I have a lot of fun on my rides. I've washed them a few times and they're still in good condition. Washing does not affect the padding or color. Without a doubt, the price is very reasonable when compared to other brands. I'd make another purchase.
