Small sock fits shoe size 12 in the United States of America. a typical age of 5 10 years.
My 10-year-old daughter and I both ride, and I believe the adult size is better for children of that age and older. However, some 7 and 8-year-olds have larger feet, so I'd go with the adult size to be safe; the adult size isn't that big; they come up my calf about a few inches above the knee.
I'm an 8 and they're a good fit for me.

She didn't take them off after she tried them on with her new snow boots. She wore the light pink shoes to school today and hasn't taken them off since she got home. She is in love with these socks and has requested that I order more for her. The weather in the upper Midwest is turning cold, and her socks keep her feet toasty warm. I will definitely buy from you again.
I bought these to put under their snow boots for my kids. One of my daughters, who is normally sensitive to lumps in her socks, adores these socks. She requested that she wear them all day and all night - She'd never done anything like this before with socks. After a few uses, the socks have begun to show signs of wear (the weave appears rough rather than smooth), but they appear to be holding up well for the price, and I would buy them again.
