The shoes are a bit of a hassle to get used to, and I felt a bit bizarre wearing them, but once you have, you probably won't ever want to go back to your old ways again.
The disappointment is not felt. This is a useful purchase, and the price is reasonable, yet the quality is still at the same level. For years, we have climbed without them and thought we would give them a try, and we are delighted with them. You need a second to adjust to them, but that is all there is to it. It is easy to use and helps to alleviate some of the neck strain that belaying can cause. It's easy to put them on and take them off, so I can wear them during the belay or leave them hanging around my neck in case I need to. Whether or not I would notice or care if there were better quality versions is up for debate. I would recommend these and appreciate the option to choose from them.
I don't normally use them. As my neck was hurting, I decided to get a pair of clothes so I could heal it. Several brands of sports nutrition products were recommended to me by my gym buddies. BG was the cheapest of them and more expensive brands ($50, $70) were the most expensive. Considering I was unsure they would be used for a long time, I didn't want to spend too much money on them. I was very impressed with the quality of the BG glasses, which seemed to work as well as the more expensive brands. It is possible that these glasses are heavier than some of the more expensive pairs, but their weight is inconsequential, and they are certainly light. When I see my friend take out a pair of expensive glasses and one of the prisms is missing, I find it funny.
The glasses allow you to keep your head still so you continue to see the person climbing, but the glass just cut allows your full vision to turn upward, which is a great effect.
Although these glasses don't go straight up, so you do have to crane your neck a bit when your partner is higher up, the upside is that you don't have to peer around your glasses when they begin to climb because you can see them conveniently in the glasses at the bottom. Those who want belay devices that go straight up aren't going to like these. Besides feeling sturdy, they're comfortable so you won't have to worry about falling.
Taking them outdoors with all the action that happens at the crag means that they will quickly break. They might be fine in a gym or other setting where not much is going on, but for climbing outside I had to get rid of them after a few weeks since I climb outside a lot, and I replaced them with something a little stronger. You shouldn't buy them unless you are very gentle with them, if you climb indoors only, and if you aren't an extreme climber.
Recovery from detached retina surgery requires the patient to lie face down for at least I had to watch my wife go through back-to-back face down procedures lasting over four weeks. This is what our friend, who is a rock climber, told us when she was recovering from her second face down accident. In time for Christmas, we received them the next day! These glasses enabled her to observe everyone unwrapping their gifts while they were wearing them.
These were a gift from a friend that sparked my interest in climbing (I've been climbing only a month as of this writing). These are the only things she likes. Apparently, she had planned on buying herself a pair of sneakers the day before, which she would have paid $70 for. The price on these guys can't be beat. I am not familiar enough with her to know if this was a complaint from her or not, but she did mention that you have to tilt your head slightly back to get maximum utility from In response to the question if it were a problem, she had replied that it was not an issue. I'm assuming either she means it to make me feel better or she's saying it out of genuine concern.
