I'm not sure if we used it properly, but we didn't end up with a smelly latrine. In this particular instance, because of the weather and location, we had a bucket latrine inside our tent (crazy and strange folks we are, really). In spite of the fact that we used it four times in the middle of the night, once for "#2", we never smelled anything other than pleasant lemongrass. Astonished at what I have just seen. In order to setup a camp toilet for my wife since she hates to use the latrines at the campground, we bought these. When I had about a gallon of liquid waste (no solid particles), I added 1 packet as directed and allowed it to soak for about an hour. When I re-checked it a couple of hours later, it was still liquid, but there was no odor. Because I really wanted it to gel up the way I wanted it to, I decided to add another pack. As soon as I left it over night, I saw a few surface bits turn to gel. On examining the bag again the following morning, I found almost no gel, making a trip to the latrine an interesting experience at the end of the weekend, when the bag was disposed of. originally gave them a 1 star review, but after speaking with their customer service, they are sending me replacements because they believe I may have received a bad batch of the product. If they work better and actually gel the product, I will.
