Questions & Answers

Is the mount and charger included in the package?

It includes a suction cup windshield mount as well as a power adapter for cigarette lighters. a USB adapter for your computer The AC wall charger is available for purchase on Garmin's website. The AC Wall Adapter Cable is a U.S. version of the AC Wall Adapter Cable. The 010- is the part number. 11478- 02 The total price was $34. 32, which includes the letter S H as well as the sales tax

Is there a database of Walmart stores? We frequently spend the night in our motorhome there. ?

Does it? That's for sure. There are two options on the main screen: "Where to Go" and "View Map" are two options for you to consider. br>After selecting "where to Go," you'll be taken to a new screen with more options. Choose "points of interest," then "shopping." Any Walmart, Target, Walgreens, or other similar store will suffice. There will be an appearance in the area. Every store you can imagine will be represented. Simply choose which store you want to go to (Walmart) and you'll be given directions. br>This is an excellent GPS; she will never fail you. You're going to be ecstatic. Have fun!

Is it possible to enter multiple addresses into the Garmin and have it calculate the best and shortest route between them? Thank you very much! ?

I'm afraid I won't be able to provide you with "all" of the Garmins that have this capability. I'd recommend going to Garmin's website and looking at the prestige and advanced series. As a result, our family currently has five Garmins, three of which can add "via's" or "waypoints" (what Garmin refers to as multiple addresses). The forty-first century The 50LM software we use does not allow the user to "add" these items. Vias are possible with the 738, 3270, and 3597 we have. Only the 3597 of these three allows me to "optimize" the route(s) for the quickest (or best) route to all via's. This feature (the optimize route) is not something I'd use again. It's not that it doesn't work, but units like the 3597 can cost anywhere from $150 to $300. The models that only allow you to add via's are 300 dollars more expensive. In addition, I believe that only the 3597 is currently available - The other via-capable units I have are 3- and 4-. I doubt they are still available new after 5 years. I hope this information is useful.

Is it possible to avoid highways on "scenic routes"?

We've only used it so far to travel in "faster time." You can opt for "shorter distance," which will usually result in a more scenic route because it avoids highways. There's also an option to go "off road." If the opportunity arose, it would be a fascinating commute. I'll be honest, I haven't gone through all of the menus or gone through the computer-assisted tutorial. The 5-inch screen, by the way, is fantastic for viewing. When you change your route, this Nuvi is extremely adept at recalculating. Hopefully, this has aided you in making your decision.

Everything will be fine
3/5

That is all there is to it. I've had it for about a month and these are my thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages. Advantages: br>br> br>• It doesn't say anything about recalculating if you miss or take a different route, which is nice because that can be a pain. br>• It appears to recalculate much more quickly than my older Nuvi model. • Up-to-date information on local points of interest (POIs) like restaurants and shopping. • There are some free voices and vehicles available that are better than the ones included with the device. br>br>Cons: br>• This device DOES NOT SPEAK THE NAMES OF THE STREETS! • The touch screen is slow to respond; you must press down hard and/or repeatedly to get it to work. • Two out of every four destinations entered were incorrect. It's kind of wrong to be 5 houses down on the opposite side of the road. br>• Had to use a miniSD card to download additional voices or vehicles to the device. br>• Garmin maps aren't as up to date as they should be. I live in New Mexico, and despite the fact that we have a lot of roads, we don't have a lot of them. We're talking about paved roads that have been marked on the map for over a decade. • Doesn't have an up-to-date list of points of interest (POIs) such as state/national landmarks and parks. br>• If the two roads are within 50 feet of each other, it sometimes puts me on the parallel road instead of the actual road I'm on. • Does not update quickly when directions change; recalculation can take a long time. I was parked facing South for over 20 minutes and it showed me facing East the entire time. br>br>I'll update again if I notice any other benefits or drawbacks.

Navigation is dependable, the interface is user-friendly, and the maps are of high quality
5/5

This is the second Garmin unit I've purchased. They've both proven to be trustworthy and precise. I've had it for a few years and am only now returning to review it after Amazon reminded me that I had never done so. In any case, this is one of the best investments I've ever made. This has helped me find my way around San Jose, San Francisco, Denver, and other cities. It always gets me where I need to go and has up-to-date information on intersections, lanes, and one-way streets. Streets with one-way traffic and speed limits br>br>I recently returned from a trip to France. Only a U. is included in this package. map pre- I got an inexpensive 8GB MicroSD card from a local retailer and purchased the full Europe map download from Garmin, and was able to use this GPS in Europe after that. I used it extensively while driving in France and Italy, and it provided excellent navigation through all of the traffic circles, narrow one-way streets, and other tricky situations. way through city streets and along scenic country roads Because all of France's autoroute highways are toll roads, the GPS's option to avoid toll roads worked perfectly. The map also provided accurate speed limit information in every location I visited, which was extremely useful. Garmin deserves credit for producing high-quality maps. If there is a drawback, it is that the internal battery only lasts two hours. The unit must be plugged in for 3 hours, which is not an issue when used in the car. However, if you're not near a car, battery life is an issue, so this isn't the best option for long hikes. (Yes, I've used it for hiking, and it's a great tool for finding coordinates. ) ) The box comes with a power cord that plugs into the cigarette lighter jack in your car. Because the GPS uses a MiniUSB connector, it cannot be charged using a standard MicroUSB phone charger. br>br>The user interface is straightforward and intuitive, and the display, thanks to its anti-reflective coating, is bright and easy to see even in direct sunlight. Design of a mirrored screen br>br>This GPS receives a perfect 5 out of 5 rating.

Good GPS
4/5

My previous GPS (Magellan) had a "lifetime" map update feature as well, but after one successful update, it refused to do any more. I had previously dealt with Magellan customer service, but after receiving no resolution to the problem, I decided to return to Garmin. br>br>Because the Nuvi 50 was on sale, I decided to get the slightly larger 5 inch model instead of the 4 inch model. Model is 3 inches tall. It's basic in the sense that it lacks Bluetooth and other "extra" features that I don't use. It had one feature that I wanted, which was to indicate the speed limit of highways and streets, in addition to the "lifetime" map update. Certain jurisdictions of cities and freeways are nothing more than speed traps, and you may not notice the posted speed limit sign until it is too late, depending on where you are traveling. I'd like to extend a warm welcome to those who are new to GPS purchases. A good GPS system can help a lot with figuring out how to get from point A to point B in a smooth and efficient manner (usually). However, it will not be 100% perfect in execution so I suggest carrying a map of the area you are going to travel (just in case GPS failure). When you open the box, you'll notice that Nuvi 50 is missing its plastic wrappers. You'll find a car charger, USB cable, window mount, and paper for "Need a dashboard disc?" if you take the unit out of the box and lift the cardboard box beneath it. ", "Activate your Lifetme Maps," "Important Safety and Product Information," "Free Trial Update Your Safety Camera," and no owner's manual, but there is a quick start guide that is only visible if you open the paper that shows a picturegram of mounting GPS to a car's windshield. You'll find quick-reference information in it. Start with a picturegram that is so basic that I can't believe how far Garmin went to save money. br>br>1) Open your computer's browser and type in the Garmin web address. (Earlier, I attempted to type in a web address, but Amazon rejected it. ) I have no idea why this is the case. )br>br>2) Plug in the GPS to your computer using the included USB/mini USB cablebr>br>3) Register your Garmin once you've created an account. br>br>4) Get the most recent map by downloading the updater. br>br>As other reviewers have mentioned, updating the map takes time, and the updater will instruct you to detach the GPS from the computer and turn it on at one point during the download of the new map. This enables the GPS to load previously downloaded data into the device. br>br>Once the GPS has finished loading the update, you will be prompted to reconnect the unit to the computer via USB to complete the process. All you have to do is follow the instructions and everything will be fine. br>br>The actual registering and downloading of the updater went without a hitch for me. If a map update is available, the updater will alert you. Those interested can download the owner's manual from the Garmin website, but this GPS (at least for me) was so simple to use that I didn't see the point in reading it. Even so, it's a good idea to read the manual if you're purchasing your first GPS. br>br>There is no need to buy an AC charger because it is not included. Charge your GPS from your computer using the USB cable that comes with it. br>In practice, the GPS worked well for the most part, but when compared to my previous Magellan Roadmate 1424 LM, I found Garmin to be slower at rerouting and recalculating. Whereas Magellan was quick to provide revised directions when I deviated from the route, I noticed that Garmin was occasionally noticeably slower. Although this is a minor flaw, it is noticeable if you have previously owned a GPS from another manufacturer. br>br>I will provide additional updates (positive or negative) if necessary, as I have only had this unit for a few days and haven't had the opportunity to fully test it. But it's a keeper for the time I've had it. ***UPDATE 06/12/12**

I type in an address or a favorite, and the GPS gives me the following directions: "Continue on the highlighted route on (the street you're on). " "br>br>Because of the layout of my home street, it is preferable to take the opposite route to get to the main street where I am going due to traffic. My old Magellan GPS gave the same directions at first, but after a few detours, it learned to adjust the directions. For the time being, the Nuvi 50 does not appear to be capable of doing so. br>br>Magellan was also good at guessing the correct address with only a few keystrokes. On some addresses, I had to type almost the entire street on the nuvi 50 before it filled the rest of the field. If you select a different voice, some of them will not provide street names. However, it will clearly state in parenthesis which of them will give street names and which will not. Garmin must be trying to save money in this way. br>br>When I first turned on my old Magellan, it took a long time to pick up a GPS signal. Nuvi 50, on the other hand, was extremely quick to pick up satellite signals. br>br>Based on what I've seen so far, I'd recommend Garming Nuvi 50: POSITIVE: br>br>NEUTRAL: br>NEUTRAL: br>NEUTRAL:

- In some cases (see above), reroute slowly. br>br>- Street names will not be given by all voices. br>br>- Despite having the most recent map update, the map still does not display the new layout of a nearby freeway exit.
