Questions & Answers

What is the best way to connect a Garmin G80 to a projector screen?

You won't be able to because there isn't a video output.

Is it better to place your foot beside or behind the ball? Is there a stand to keep it slightly incline, or does it have to lie flat on the ground? Thanks. ?

It's 1 foot away from the ball, in front of you, the ball, and the monitor. The monitor's back has a golfball-shaped indentation that you can lean it against with a ball, making it very stable.

How much space between you and a hitting net is required for the launch monitor to function?

The device is positioned at a 90-degree angle to the ball and is placed across from you. You can get as close to the goal as you want as long as your club doesn't hit the net. The unit must be about 12 inches away from the ball. Purchase a selfie tripod that allows you to easily adjust the height and direction of your camera.

Is this a proprietary charging cable, or does it use a standard micro USB (or similar stock connector)?

It's a standard micro USB to standard USB cable that complies with Garmin's data transfer requirements. It includes the necessary cable.

Good accuracy in distance
5/5

I bit the bullet and bought new golf clubs (sticker shock) after 20 years with my previous set. During my fitting, I discovered that the new 7 iron was 30 yards longer than my old one. (yeah! However, this meant that all of my known distances were incorrect, and before I went to the course and embarrassed myself even more than usual, I needed to 'distance' all of my clubs, which was where the G80 came in. It appealed to me because it served as a launch monitor as well as a course GPS. Even though the launch monitor only shows speeds and distances, that's all I'm interested in. I'm not going to use the range to evaluate my swing because I can see everything else (direction, side-spin). So, I just got back from my first trip to the driving range. It's spot on. On the driving range, I laser-scanned the pins before comparing the G80 to where my ball landed. The G80 displayed the correct distance if I was pin high. If I fell short, it was also evident. To get an accurate measurement, you must, however, hit the ball very well. On shots where I was either way too thin (quasi worm burner) or horribly mis-exposed, When the shot was hit, the G80 displayed it as being much longer than it actually was. Its sole purpose is to measure speeds. When I hit the ball well, however, I was able to hit it for a long distance. br>br>On the range this morning, I hit about 80 shots and the G80 only missed reading one of them – my driver off the tee. Since I was going to kill that one, I think I had it set too high. I hacked it to shreds – I'll never learn! Because I was successful in mapping out my clubs, the monitor served its purpose and was well worth the money. Now that I know it's accurate, I'm going to try it out in my backyard with a net to see if I can improve my shot consistency. I'm already a happy camper, and I haven't even tried out the GPS on the course.

Radar is not reliable
3/5

Only the radar feature is the subject of this review and my rating. The accuracy in radar mode, according to the specifications, is /-. 5 yards. On the range at my golf club, I carry my 5 iron well beyond a marker that I know is at 142 yards (thanks to a laser range finder). I've had my current iron set for about three years, so I'm well-versed in my iron distances, and this is what I'd expect from my 5 iron. The carry should be 125 yards, according to the radar. It's ever given me a 130-yard carry with my 5 iron. I do everything the manual says to ensure an accurate set up, and I also tee up the ball slightly to ensure a clean strike, but the carry distance is always short. I set it up in my basement where it's easy to ensure all the set up conditions are clean, and my 5 iron carry is never more than 130 yards even with a clean strike. Even when I use the roll feature to its full potential, the total distance never matches my carry distance. br>br>According to the manual, when calculating carry and roll, the radar ignores spin and launch angle. What? How do you calculate a projectile's carry distance if you don't know the launch angle? What method does it employ to calculate carry distance?.

I was let down in some ways
4/5

Today was the first time I tried it. It's quite effective. It was very easy to locate the course. It appears that the map is correct. I previously used their G8 GPS, which lacked the following useful features that the G80 lacks: Can't save measured distance for different clubs, can't record putts*; on the G8, you could just press one button to record a score. Although the Garmin app indicates that it is connected, it has yet to upload today's score until I connect it to my computer using a USB cable. I'm hoping that Garmin's software and documentation will be updated soon! br>br>* Clarification: It is possible to keep track of putts - To begin, "stat tracking" must be enabled. The User Manual makes no mention of this. It sends the results to my phone correctly today. The ability to save scores for each club, which allowed the G8 to suggest appropriate clubs, is the main thing I miss, but I was impressed with the accuracy. It appeared to be a lot better than my G8. When I used the radar on one of the holes, my drive actually went the distance predicted by the radar! As a result, I've given you another star.

Disappointment is the word that comes to mind when I think of the word disappointment As a result, I've been given a nickname
3/5

I was looking to purchase a launch monitor that also came with a golf GPS. I must admit that I was let down by both of them. To begin with, the GPS is extremely difficult to use and makes no sense (especially on a touch screen) when trying to enter scores or measure distance. I am dissatisfied with this Garmin product because I already have two GPS watches that perform admirably. This function, in my opinion, is completely useless in comparison to anything else. I have a ten-year-old GPS that is far superior to this one. The only useful function of the Launch Monitor is ball speed, which is slightly more accurate than the indoor Track Man. However, it does not perform any other useful functions, such as ball spin, as do other products in the same price range. Because this is an Approach product and it is quite expensive, I assumed I would be able to get the sensors for my clubs, but I was surprised to learn that this is not the case. WOW. So I went out and bought another Garmin Golf GPS Approach G12 because it supports the sensors, but it turned out to be completely useless for golf, so I'm not sure what they're marketing it for.

The battery life and usability of this device are incredible! The G80 was well worth the money I spent on it
5/5

I really like how light and versatile this product is. Rangefinders and other on-course gadgets have never appealed to me as a golfer. However, I hit balls into a net backed by a tarp in my garage on a standard range mat. I just finished my fourth virtual round at two different par 3s in the area. What a blast! br> It includes a warm-up, target practice, tempo trainer, and virtual round, and it works flawlessly as a radar device on my local course (actually 41k yards); I tested it against other golfers' devices and found it to be extremely accurate.
I just got my G80 a week ago, gave it a full charge and it’s at 57%! That's a 2 on the scoreboard. 9 holes on an executive course with 6 out of 7 evenings of practice. This is a fantastic book that I strongly suggest you read!.

Excellent navigation system
5/5

I just got my hands on a Garmin G80. I bought this to be able to turn off my phone and leave it in the car. I only played 9 holes today and I'm still getting used to it, but it's useful information. I especially like being able to move the flag on the green. Also used the elevation change option, which surprised me on two holes, but followed with club for distance, ended pin height but off line (my issue)br>br>So the first part of the GPS on the Golf Course is good, but expected from Garmin. br>br> The driving range is on the agenda for the following weekend.
