I honestly don't think it makes a difference, but I prefer Energizer batteries because they last a long time, and I use this Lantern in the event of a power outage. We engage in a game of Scrabble. Scrabble necessitates the use of a dependable battery. LOL
There are no rechargable batteries in this device. It appears to be powered by four D-size batteries. Of course, if you prefer, you can use rechargeable batteries.
This should only be used if the power goes out. I've never had to replace the batteries, so I can't say how long they should last.

I was impacted by the Texas power outage; we had little to no preparation aside from a 700 lumen flashlight and an 8-pack of AA batteries, so I went out and bought supplies in case it happened again. I've been experimenting with it, and I have to say that it brightens up a room, especially if the walls are a light color and there are mirrors, though looking directly into the light can be a little taxing. Low mode is fine and reminds me of the setting on my headlamp (also from energizer, which I picked up two days into the outage). My only complaint is the night light, which is just one little orange LED in the middle and it's very dim compared to the promo picture, to the point where I may not find myself using it. I thought it'd mimic a campfire lighting scenario but it's just dark and dim, it'd be difficult to read a book with it, perhaps going to the restroom or just having it on. I also purchased a 16-pack of D batteries to store, and I may purchase a 500-lumen light in the future, but I think I'm good for now. I would definitely take it on a trip, camping, etc. , in its 1000-lumen mode.
Last year, during brief power outages caused by storms, I purchased two of these Energizer 1000 Lumens with USB power banks (from a local box store). These lanterns are powered by four D batteries and are perfect for our needs. 3 brightness levels (dim to bright), phone charger, easy carry handle, and overall sturdy enough to stand upright. I decided to purchase two more, but couldn't find them anywhere until I discovered them on Amazon- Amazon is to be commended. I decided I needed another, and it arrived in only a polyvinyl envelope the other day? The lantern isn't in a clam shell or a box-shaped container. Why, in the world, would Amazon only ship in a polyvinyl envelope? The delivery person/or USPS "dropped" it on our porch, which I heard. Fortunately, there does not appear to be any damage. for now- But, next time, Amazon, please put it in a box or, at the very least, a bubble envelope.
I live in a rural area where the power goes out every year or so. I received five of these, one for each member of my family. Each person gets their own, which makes it much easier for us to move around the house when the power goes out. In addition, each person receives their own electronic device charging port. I used a label maker to write each person's name on the package, and I have extra D batteries on hand.
I'm looking forward to having this in my emergency kit at home for power outages, which seem to be happening more frequently lately. I'm guessing it's due to the size of the trees, but whatever it is, it seems to be happening a lot. You just don't know, so this light is extremely bright, and the three brightness settings are a nice option, and the real plus is a port to charge your phone, which means you won't have to run to the car. I have a charger for my phone, but it was dead the last time I tried to use it, so I had to charge both items because there are three of us with phones, and at least one of us will get a charge. This won't charge right now, but I'm thinking four new D batteries will suffice. br>Leave it to Energizer to be a part of today's daily needs.
I had anticipated it being quite large. However, the likelihood of this happening is extremely remote. It's a good flashlight with 360-degree lighting from a lighting standpoint. The handle makes it simple to carry. br>I bought this flashlight primarily for the ability to charge it via USB. When I was charging my iPhone 11, I took a power reading. The output is only about 3 watts. As a result, it is extremely slow to charge the phone. The light can only operate at 500LM and in night mode when using the USB charger.
I hate to say it, but Energizer grossly overvalues this product. The light function is adequate, but most people purchase it for the charging feature, which is where it falls short. During a recent power outage, I gave it a shot for about half an hour: went from 27% to 30% then down to 24%, causing my phone to overheat in the process. Buying a separate flashlight and charger is probably a better option.
When we go camping, I bought this for my husband to take with him on fishing walks down to the water. He was so pleased with it that he asked me to get him another! He hangs them on shepherd's hooks near the water to keep them off the ground and higher up. We also used them on our picnic table at night when we were back at the campsite, and the fact that they had different brightness levels was very cool. It was a nice bonus to have an extra USB port to charge our phone!.
After a storm, we had no power for three days. We bought one locally because it had a USB port, and it's fantastic. Our kitchen was illuminated by the brightest setting. As a nightlight, we chose the low setting. It isn't particularly heavy, making it simple to transport from room to room. The USB charge is slow, so I didn't give it five stars. But it does have one. I liked it so much that I ordered two more so that if the power goes out again, we'll be able to light the majority of our home.
