Questions & Answers

The manufacturer states "compatible with #2 or #4 filters" Does this mean that you must use a filter or is the mesh fine enough to do so without the need to apply a ?

The use of filters is not necessary. If they complain about weak coffee, they should use a finer ground and let the grounds bloom for about 30 seconds before they make their coffee. By pouring hot water over the ground, you are allowing them to swell and release their goodness in the process. Once this is done, pour the rest of the very hot water over the grounds and fill any vessel with it.

What about the orange cup in the picture? Does it come with it?

This is the GSI Outdoors Infinity Stacking Cup if you are curious about it

Do you know how durable this product is, how much strong coffee can this produce in one sitting, do you come with a carry bag, or is this a one pound bag?

There is no way I could let you down on this one. There is a lot of room for a lot of coffee and by design, the netting will fit any kind of cup. You can even get Although it does not appear to be a carrier, it seems My bags are always placed in a small zip-lock bag or plastic sandwich bag that zips up. In the event you want, you can be creative in giving the carrier a more durable construction. I found the only downside of this was the water freezing in cold climates. Even boiling water takes too long to cool before it can be consumed as is. Pour overs are a good way to deal with that problem if your situation requires it.

When it comes to packing it when travelling, can it be folded into a saucer-like shape? Would it be better if it remained cylindrical like a tomato can?

Folds flat when not in use. The drug is kept in a bowl with a cup on top of it to protect it from moisture. I am happy with its performance. To me, it is the easiest and best cup of coffee I have ever had on the trail.

The perfect backpack for backpackers! I like this one not only because it works so well, but also because it is lightweight and fits into my Toaks 1100mL pot well
5/5

Coffee I made out of this was better than any camping coffee I have ever had in the past (percolators, teabags, wonderful, I bought one for each of my backpacking friends because they were so jealous the first time I used it, and they wanted one too! The cleaner is very easy to use, a few drops of water are all I need to clean it off. I flip it inside out, shake it, and then While I was skeptical about being able to stand on the cup with those little arms, I managed to do so with no issue. You should try to use a balanced pouring technique, however, as well as center the bowl before you start. The process of pouring from the outside in comes more naturally to me when I spiral inward. The amount of coffee grounds I use for each fill of my Toaks 550mL drinking cup/pot is 1/4 cup.

The thing we love is this! It was probably the best purchase I made for a camping trip! The only percolator coffee I have ever had has been mediocre
5/5

The only way it could be weak is if it's gross or if it's There is no problem with this device. A reviewer told me to get cone filters so that I could make stronger coffee (the water moves more slowly through the cone filters). Our husband has gotten so used to it that when we returned from camping he wanted to replace our coffee maker with it. There is one tip that you should know You can slide the clips over a cup without a lip around the rim as we did. If you bring a cup without a lip, you may want to put a rubber band around it. The rubber band worked very well at keeping it on the glass cup, even when I had not tested it at home. I was bummed that it wouldn't stay on in my apartment, but it's still an impressive product.

This is a great product
5/5

I've updated three times since I first used it. Thus far, I have tested it only at home and it seems to work smoothly. If you don't use a filter, the water drips too fast and the coffee is weak, and afterwards it's harder to clean it out. Therefore, I will be using a filter next time so that I can easily clean everything It worked well on a water bottle, so I'm sure it will be equally good on most other devices. This is a very sturdy coffeemaker considering it weighs a small amount and is really small. I think it'll be the best way I've made coffee in the backcountry so far. On the weekend following this, I will test it out while backpacking. Any more information to add will be added after three uses

Update after three Now that I have used it three times hiking, I feel as if it is worth the money. The pack is light and easy to carry around! The program works like a charm and is easy to use. Pour your coffee through a filter for a stronger flavor! Great for making coffee while out in the open air I definitely recommend it!.

I think it should come with a case even though it's ultralight
4/5

Advantages and Cons Brews a good cup of coffee when it is done with care. This pair of brew socks is definitely on my must-have list. The great thing about this item is that it is super When I turned upside down the grounds, I dumped them on the dirt or into the compost pile, then with two cups of clear water I was able to get all of them off with little effort. The compact key has a simple design. It is a brand I have heard much about. While they look as if they would easily break, they have a flexible fitting where they fit your cup and a sturdy part where they hold your water plus coffee. These have only been used once, but they have proved themselves to be self-evident. The cons are It would be nice to include a waterproof carry pouch and directions that are awful. The price would be less than $0. (Minus one star) Making them costs less than $5 and they could be ultralight as well. There's a mention to put this under your fuel canister, so I guess there is a presumption we are using isobutane. We are all sensitive to materials, so there should be a better explanation of everything that goes into the products. Yes, a sandwich bag with a fold-lock top works fine for now.

Better directions on The best way to ensure that your filter stays wet before adding coffee is by wetting it thoroughly. It is best to measure slightly more than what you usually use in order to get what you would consider When pouring coffee, it is best to start with as little as 15ml and let the coffee expand before pouring again so less fines end up in the Since the coffee was properly poured into the cup, there were very few fines in my cup. I use close to Turkish grind. If you add water within 5mm of the upper coffee grind line, then your water will leak through, giving you a weak cup of coffee after the coffee has expanded. So add small amounts of water at a time after the coffee has expanded. You should focus your pour on the inner 2/3's of the coffee ground. You will see what I mean when you try to get too close to the top of your coffee mill. Feel free to challenge me if you see the clear water trickling into your cup. That's all I have for you. In my opinion, this really is a good filter, and one I would buy As a case should have been included, and I was halfway expecting one, I think it's worth $8. The answer is Yes, I would buy it again, and the answer is Yes, I would recommend it.

You will love the ultralight weight of this solution! It is an important part of our daily lives The mountain scenery in the Pacific Northwest makes me long for a GOOD cup of coffee at any time of the day
5/5

"- " Any size mug can be used, an insulated GSI mug is no exception!
- You can clean up in no time You just need to Please note I find both the mesh and the loop to be very strong and There's no need to worry about it bending. Please note Ultra-violet is the best disinfectant based on my experience I like a good cup of strong coffee on fine ground. It doesn't have to be big You will get a weak brew if you use fine grounds. When I was a kid, I used to make my own earphones using a coffee filter and an elastic band Make sure you pour over all of it. There is less effort involved in bringing a full press up the trail with this technique.
