The underside is a soft fleece-like material.
It's a little different on the one they sent me because the areas at the top of the bed that keep your bike in place are different.
It'll be tight, but it'll happen.

I looked at several different tailgate pads before deciding on this one because it appeared to be durable, had a thick pad for my bike, fit well on my Tundra Crew Cab, allowed me to use my back up camera, the form fitting bumps on the pad are large and thick enough to prevent my bike from sliding back and forth (the straps also help), has a soft material underneath the pad to prevent scratching of my truck paint, and could easily carry four bikes. br>At my local hardware store, I purchased the chains, padlocks, and blue hose cover for the chain. The installation of this pad is the only thing that makes it a little difficult: br>br>
1. Keeping in mind to wipe off the tailgate paint (to avoid dirt becoming a sandpaper between the paint and the pad).
2. It takes a little time to feed the straps underneath the tailgate, but it's only a little time. br>There are three other things I noticed:
1. My Truxedo's rails rub up against the pad's "bumps," but you can simply adjust the pad slightly to prevent the bumps and rails from rubbing.
2. Because the bike strap is long, smaller tubes require the strap to be wrapped twice around them.
3. A point to consider: A protective clear strip should be applied to the bike where the bottom of the bike tube paint rests on the pad to prevent paint from being rubbed off. Overall, it's a good investment in terms of durability, and it allows me to secure the pad while I'm leaving it at the trailhead parking lot.
For a full-size 1500 Chevy truck, I chose the Thule Gatemate Pro Full Size. This is a nice full-size tailgate bike rack that fits my four family bikes comfortably. I have no concerns about driving on the freeway because the rack keeps the bikes secure. It has 8 bike straps, but it's unlikely that you'll be able to fit that many on it. . . 5 to 6 bikes is probably the most you'll be able to fit. The material appears to be heavy duty, so I expect it to last a long time. I keep it on my truck all summer so we can go for a bike ride at any time. I've had it for one season and it's held up well. It has mesh pockets on the back that appear to be unnecessary, but they are there if you need them. br>br>The only drawback is that it tends to slide down the front of the tailgate over time; to avoid this, I used a strap to tie it directly to the truck's back bed. I'm pleased with Thule's rack in general. This is something I've recommended to another biker who owns a truck. Have a great time biking!.
It fits four full-size mountain bikes perfectly in my 2019 GMC Sierra and keeps them secure. I could fit more bikes in there if I wanted to, but it would be crowded.
The installation was simple, and my bikes were well protected. The bikes (29" Big Rippers) did not move at all, and the padding on my F150's tailgate was excellent. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but it is of excellent quality.
When I contacted Amazon about the discrepancy, they said there was no guarantee that if I returned it, I would receive the beefier version of the product that was advertised on their website (and on the tag!). as well as the instruction book! Steven Lenhard responded after contacting Thule and waiting nearly a month for a straight answer: "The site and the manual use a render that looked beefier. " However, the one you received is the final shipping product, and it matches what you ordered exactly. Although the render appears to be different, we need more flex than the image for every tailgate and other similar applications. " I'm not sure what that means, but now that my return window has closed, we'll try it. ".
The Gatemate is made of high-quality materials and is well-built, but it does not, unfortunately, secure bikes as advertised. The straps keep the bikes in place, but they don't keep them from leaning. This is not the product for you if you don't want your bicycles to lean against each other while being transported.
(4) mountain bikes br>br>Functions great. While there are slots for more, I believe it would be a tight fit, but this applies to all brands. This is an excellent product in general.
Very reliable, high-quality, and simple to set up. I've bought more expensive bike racks before, but nothing compares to the quality of this one. Thank you for making it fit perfectly in my Toyota Tundra!.
