I use these to hang a hammock on my balcony using 3/4" – 1" rectangular bars with no clasp. There isn't enough room in the curve for it to close completely. With a 1 3/4" rectangular bar, you won't be able to close the clasp. A more traditional shape would be my preference.

Until this past camping trip, these were my go-to hammocks. Obviously, these are adequate for a keychain, but do I really require a keychain with a 12kN rating?.
These were purchased as a "go-to" item. The last couple of clips barely lasted a winter before falling apart. br>br>At first, I was hesitant about the design. (Would that wire-looking thing hold up? ) There was no need for me to be concerned. The first clip is still operational, and I honestly have no idea how it feels, looks, or functions. The closure is secure, the spring works as well as it did the first day I hooked it up, and the finish looks great after months of exposure to the elements. br>br>I purchased four (4) of these in a package. My only issue now is deciding how I'll use the remaining three. I'm not sure if I'll live long enough to see this one through. If it does, I'll consider the purchase price for just one clip to be a steal if I never have to replace it. (Of course, this could just be wishful thinking, but it's a start. )br>br>Edit: April 24, 2021 is the current date. We've survived yet another Chicago winter, and the first clip is still going strong. Where the clip rubs against the chain and the loop on her collar, a small amount of the dye has worn off, but I had to look for it. The majority of the time, it's still a pleasant, easy-going atmosphere. spot- the- Orange as snow I'm even more pleased with my purchase than I was before. "They don't make things like they used to," we've all sung at one point or another. " I'm not sure how they used to make these clips, but I doubt they were any better than these. ".
The wiregate is incredibly light, and dealing with it is actually easier than dealing with the typical gym clips. I fully expect these to become tarnished because they are made of aluminum rather than steel. The gym parts' edges aren't all smooth, and the anodized part scratched off quite easily when I moved it around by hand; however, I didn't buy these to be fashionable, so meh. The wiregate ends are also peened to prevent them from becoming loose. Overall, this carabiner is quite nice.
I recently used one of these to connect two tow straps, one of which was attached to my truck and the other to a large cleyera shrub stump. Although I cut the shrub's roots, the stump remained strong enough to cause my 4wd to f-up. Before pulling the stump, 150 slid sideways across the pavement. The carabiner was able to keep its grip. It was a pleasant surprise. In a time when many products aren't, this is one that is.
Carabiners for mountain climbing are rated to save people's lives when they are free falling towards certain death. Only about half of that stress is rated for these clips. In other words, they're great for all of the minor tasks, and the price reflects the fact that they're not rated to splwfftcd (as mentioned above). )br>Of course, I use it to keep my keys in it. They do this exceptionally well; the difference between this and a standard key fob is striking; I don't use one to hang my stainless steel or Nalgene water bottle, instead delegating that task to my son. However, I find that they make it simple to attach and detach a hammock, a lashing point, or, in my case, my back pack from my carry-on or even one checked wheeled duffel to another, allowing me to more easily walk all of our bags through the various airports around the world, whether alone or with my family. When I get home, at least one or two of the clips return to their day jobs, looking after my keys and keeping them attached to my person so I can use them quickly and easily.
These are for use with our hammocks, which we purchased. If you need carabiners to use with straps, these are excellent choices. They don't appear to be flimsy or bendable. They're light and appear to work well, but they should since they're brand new. They do not bend at all when I am over 200 pounds. We've put 325 pounds on them between my son and me, and they've held up admirably! We used them on July 1st, when we went backpacking 3. Utah's Unitas is 5 miles deep. When you're trying to keep the weight in your pack to a minimum, the light weight nature is ideal. I've only used the straps twice, but my 13-year-old son has used them dozens of times in the backyard and at friends' houses. I still believe my son should learn how to use a rope rather than a stick. straps, and tying a trucker's hitch to secure his hammock, but that's a different story. However, if you prefer hammock straps, these appear to be a good deal and work well right out of the box. I'd order these again in a heartbeat if I needed another set or two of carabiners! It was a good investment.
I chose these carabiners because I didn't want to go with the super cheap ones; they appeared to be of higher quality, but I'm not sure. The gates on them aren't super sturdy, but they look nice and appear to be rated higher than some of the cheaper ones. I bought these with the intention of securing them to my kayak with paracord. So I keep a few tied-down carabiners on hand to clip onto a bag, cooler, or whatever. However, the biner was turned sideways on several occasions, causing the gate to pop out the wrong way. It was as if it had slid around to the front instead of opening inwards, leaving it open and unable to hold anything in place. I believe this is due to the fact that the gates on these carabiners are thin metal rather than a movable piece of metal the same size as the rest of the carabiner. It's not worth returning them because they mostly work, but I don't believe the extra money was worth it.
They are well-made, especially the wire gates. I expect them to last a long time; in fact, I'll probably lose them before they die! The machining is excellent, as is the body coloring (2 black and two orange). The fact that there is no "hook" where the gate closes, but rather a flatter surface with a small bump, prevents snagging on hoops, loops, or cordage, is one thing that strikes me as unique. These are ideal for the purpose for which they were created, NOT FOR CLIMBING. Overall, I'm very impressed with these, especially for the price, and would strongly recommend them to any outdoor enthusiast!.
