Are the measurements in American sizes?

Yes, the measurements are in American units. I'm 5'4", 128 pounds, and a little on the busty side, so a medium works perfectly for me. I ordered the white version because the small was too tight across the bust.

Is this vest made of a light material? Is this too heavy for a summer evening?

It's not too heavy. I got mine in white and it has a smoother texture, but it definitely looks like a work out vest.

I'm not ashamed to wear just a tank top and yoga capris, but I needed something that wasn't too hot but still covered my midriff. When you're out and about, take a look at this section. This vest is absolutely stunning! It goes perfectly with my Lulu Lemon workout gear - It has a high-end appearance and is easy to care for. I wish there were more colors available. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on it, and I'm glad I purchased it. I would strongly suggest it.
