When my 10-year-old daughter's Rawlings aluminum bat broke one night at practice, I bought this DeMarini, which has so far proven to be quite nice. From aluminum bats to composite bats, we've seen it all. When you hit a ball with this bat, you won't hear the trademark high-pitched ting sound. It isn't a composite sound, but it is distinct. My daughter enjoys it and the way it feels when she makes contact with it; while a nice bat won't fix a bad swing, it can boost confidence.
I just got the 30/18 today, and I can't wait for her to try a few rounds of balls with it. The grip gives off a good first impression. Do not be fooled by the grip's odd appearance out of the box. The grip was her favorite feature of the bat. I was worried about the cold and the fact that it was an aluminum bat because she didn't wear her batting gloves. I was sorely disappointed with myself. Without gloves, the bats in the batting cages were less stingy than the bats with gloves. We bought this bat as a backup bat for the cold weather and for practice hitting. It has a very light swing and makes solid contact. However, depending on the size of the child, I could see this bat being used as a game bat for children aged 12 and under. It's a very light bat, and it's on the shorter side for a nine-year-old of her size (5'). We chose the 30"/18 because it was a similar length and weight to what she was used to at the batting cages. Going to the batting cages to try out different bat lengths before purchasing is a great way to save money. For her game/fair weather bat, she uses a 31" Spryte. This will be her bat if she wants to take a lot of swings and practice in the cold. After the first time out (30 hits), she said she liked it, so you can't go wrong.

She enjoys her bat and appears to be hitting the ball more consistently with it. She used to have another well-known brand bat, but this one seems to be working out better for her.
This bat is allowing my daughters to hit the ball much further. It has a bit of a sting to it, but it's well worth the money.
