If you have a 17-year-old calf, The XL will fit perfectly; they're a little tight to put on at first, but once they're on, you'll forget they're there. Mountain biking is how I use mine.
Yes, we wash them on a regular basis; these shin guards are fantastic!

I wouldn't feel comfortable using them against people wearing cleats, but I like how light they are and think they'll do the job indoors. Not as sturdy as regular shinguards, but I use them for futsal, so it's fine; I can easily feel the difference just by hitting them with my hand.
This is not a soccer ball. It was a complete waste of money.
I bought it to go mountain biking with. You'll understand why if you've ever ridden a pair of flats. These are super light, and they fit right under my long socks, but they're thick enough to protect your shins from the inevitable pedal strike. I wash them after maybe three uses, and they've held up beautifully. Get them!.
These guards provide a great deal of comfort. It's possible to wash them in the machine. There were no issues at all.
My daughter adores them because they are simple to put on and take off during practice, are lightweight, and provide excellent protection.
They don't stay on very well and are prone to slipping.
