Having your own tools is convenient. br>I understand that you must use loaners until you commit to longer-term training, but once you commit, you must have your own equipment.
When my instructor smacked me across the face with a stick, it worked out perfectly.
This was my second mask purchase, as my first was an Amazon purchase of a ThreeWot fencing mask that was far too small. br>br>The Leonark has proven to be a significant improvement, and it has been used successfully in several long sword sparring sessions. I'd recommend ordering a size larger than you think you'll need, but aside from that, it's done an excellent job, even saving me from a hard thrust dead center with no pain or injury. It's something I'd recommend as long as you remember the sizing advice I gave earlier. )br>br>Recently updated- It's held up pretty well after a year of intensive training against a variety of weapons. While waffling the crap out of my head underneath (my fault, not the masks), I've taken some pretty hard thrusts to the mask that have done nothing to damage it. The removable liner is a bit of a shambles and is starting to fall apart, but that could be due to the fact that I washed it. That said, it's gotten me through a few tournaments with no problems, and it hasn't had any catastrophic failures in over 400 hours of use. It's not the most attractive mask on the market, but it gets the job done. Keeps your head from being harmed by swords. That is all there is to it.
This mask is well-made and attractive, and it arrived in good condition. It was easy to adjust to my head. If I had to, I'd buy it again.
This is an outstanding helmet. I'm new to HEMA and have only used it for a few headshots. With what I consider to be some fairly hard hits from nylon longswords, no damage to the helmet has occurred, and I have experienced no pain. In addition, "offical" HEMA gear retailers are significantly more expensive. This is something I strongly urge you to buy.
