It is a cheaply made item. I found it difficult to work with since there was a hole in the grate at the bottom of the cup that keeps the crickets out. The crickets were so attracted to the powder that they went in It looks like it is made relatively cheaply. In addition, the crickets that remained didn't climb into the tube since it allowed light to pass through the whole tube and wasn't really a dark area. The product was returned to me in a disappointing manner.
The straw is not necessary. I didn't get the results I wanted. They basically laughed at the straw like a bunch of kids. Uh, no, we don't intend to crawl up that cliff to our death. I will say, though, that it is a fantastic shaker for bugs. The calcium powder my boyfriend used on our beardies' feeders was always way too much and I ended up having to clean it out of their tank every day. But it is a great shaker, so it was worth the trouble and expense. Each bug gets just the right amount of attention. As we moved to Dubia, we still use this every time. Usually the Dubs cling to the grate and I have to open it to get them out. However, no matter how much you do it, you will not bother me. It is great not to have wasted calcium in the tank, and I really love that.
bottle works, but the lid is a real pain to screw on and off -- initially, I thought calcium got in the threads and stopped it from smoothly opening. But the bottom screws off and it turns like butter, and that's where all the calcium and vitamin powder is kept. Currently, I am giving it a rating of 3 stars.
Since the screen arrived broken, rather than exchange it, I taped parts of it to avoid making the extra trip to Kohl's to drop it off and order another - but the calcium powder sticks to the tape, and I constantly have to touch it to replace it - gross! Be attentive, and if it arrives broken, swap it out with the new one.
There were only two things wrong the crickets wouldn't go in the chute so I just emptied them.
Whenever my daughter dreamed of a dragon, she would picture it. In that case, it naturally needs to be fed. It is worth it to me if I can make the task easier.
It works for me better to use a plastic cup from ChuckECheese. I'm a Representative- There is a good concept behind Cal Shaker, but it isn't perfect. Since it is made out of a fragile polycarbonate plastic ( my cup arrived cracked at the bottom), I had to use a lot more powder than in a normal plastic Use the tube that comes with Rep- if you do not use the tube that comes with Rep- The powder ends up spilling out of the Cal shaker because you get the crickets out. It's the same thing when you take the lid off or turn it upside down to "powder" the crickets because the sliding window covering the top is not tight to the lid. When you shake it, it makes some noise as well. There is no reason for me to use There is no longer a Cal shaker.
The ideal product for dusting your feeders lightly! There have been several things I have tried in the past to dust my Chameleon feeders, and this shaker is by far the best. There is no need to overdust your feeders or waste expensive supplements. Listen to the 5 star reviews and ignore the 1 star ones.
