Yes, I believe either one would work. My friend rides in a high-back saddle and uses this gel pad, while my husband rides in a low-back saddle and uses this gel pad as well. I hope this has been of assistance.
No, it isn't particularly thick, and it conforms to your body and the saddle. I had one for each of my saddles, and they were fantastic.

In the summer, I don't notice a difference in how hot my seat is. It has no effect on the temperature of my seat. It is extremely relaxing!

Where the saddle and I meet, there isn't much natural padding. I've tried the Tush Cush, sheepskin pads, gel pads, and the latter two combined over the years, but none of them have kept me comfortable on the trail for more than a couple of hours. After reading some of the reviews on this pad, I decided to give it a shot. It works! I'm able to go on longer trail rides now. My only suggestion is that the back strap be buckled so that it can be threaded through the rings in the back of a Western saddle. To keep the strap from riding up, I needed to tie it to the rings with string. This is an outstanding pad.
This product dissatisfies me to no end!! It helped a little, but not nearly as much as I had hoped. br>I borrowed one from a friend for a ride and it was quite comfortable; however, it appears that the newer ones lack the same amount of gel as the one I borrowed. (Same Manufacturer)br>I also gave one to my daughter for your birthday, which was a few months later. She tried it once and despised it. Although Amazon was unable to return the item, they were able to provide me with the manufacturer's contact information. When I informed them of the situation, they refused to return it, even though it had only been used once. br>I strongly advise against it!.
I bought it with a gift card to put towards my gaited horse saddle, which is similar to a western saddle but without the horn. It came with front straps that wrap around the front of my saddle, and the elastic under the cantle fits perfectly. It was very comfortable, and my saddle was black mathes. Even at a canter, it kept its form and didn't giggle. The seat is roomy enough to accommodate my entire saddle.

I have four of these, and none of them provided adequate cushioning, let alone the ability to stay in place on the saddle. This pad takes care of everything, and I use an endurance saddle. Love it.
It's fantastic! I purchased a Pandora Carbon Fiber Saddle. My tush can get a little sore after about 6 hours in the saddle, but this pad is fantastic. It is something I strongly suggest. It's well worth the money because it's well-made and easy to keep in place.
It is, according to my husband, the best investment he has ever made! He had never ridden a horse before and went on a horseback hunting trip in Canada, where he spent over 5 hours per day on the horse. He was the only guy in his outdoor group who could get off his horse at the end of the day without being sore!.
