Questions & Answers

Is it still just Spades if you throw in a wild Joker?

The game's guidelines are as follows. br>br>Each person is dealt ten cards one by one, and five cards are placed face down in the center of the table to form the nest - Following the first five rounds of the deal, the dealer adds one card to the nest. br>br>After that, the players make a bid to see who gets to pick trumps. Each bid is represented by a numerical value. Bids must be multiples of 5, with a minimum of 100. The player to the left of the dealer has the first opportunity to bid, and the turn to speak moves around the table clockwise. You have the option of bidding or passing during your turn. Each bid must be higher than the previous one, and a player who has passed is unable to bid in that hand. Bidding continues around the table as many times as necessary until three players have passed. The high bidder is the fourth player, and his team tries to get at least the number of points specified in the final bid. If the first three players pass in the first round of bidding, the dealer is forced to bid 100. br>br>After that, the bidder must pick up the remaining cards without showing them to the other players, forming a hand of 15 cards, and then discard five of these cards face-down. The bidder is not permitted to place point cards in the nest, and picking up the nest can sometimes make your hand worse: You may obtain a number of weak point cards that you must keep, discarding cards that you would have preferred to keep in their place. After discarding, the bidder names a color for trumps. br>br>Any card can be led to the first trick by the player to the left of the high bidder. If they are able, the other players must play a card of the same color. If they don't have any cards of the led color, they may play any card, including the Rook, which counts as a trump color card. When everyone has played a card, the highest trump player wins the trick, or if no trump was played, the highest card of the led color wins the trick. When a trick is won, the next trick is played. br>br>At the conclusion of the game, each team totals the value of the cards won in tricks. If the bidder's team wins tricks with at least as many points as the bid, that team is awarded the card points they took. If the winning bidder's team takes fewer card points than the bid, they do not receive any credit for the cards they won. Instead, they deduct the bid amount from their previous score. The non- Whether the bid is successful or not, the bidding team scores the total number of points earned by their team. br>br>When a team scores 500 points or more, the game is over. The winning team is the one with the highest score.

The card game "spades" in its "baptized" form
5/5

My second son, a mainstream Evangelical, had a good laugh (and I joined in) when I told him that growing up in the conservative church subculture in which I was raised, we would never think of playing "spades" with an "evil" standard deck of cards with which to play poker (no doubt nefariously pulling an "ace" out of the sleeve of your coat in a "saloon" or casino). It was a lot of fun to play "Rook. " Rook, on the other hand, is essentially a spade game with a couple of minor differences. The difference is insignificant. Still, the differences are fascinating, and you will enjoy playing Rook (should you choose to do so), as I did during my time at a church-affiliated college. Despite this, I received a 3. 87 GPA. So, I guess cards aren't always used by the devil. That is, if you only play "Rook" while doing so.

excessively low-cost These cards are far too thin, according to Hasbro
3/5

Unlike the old Rook cards, these are so thin that a single shuffle bends every card; they're essentially paper. I've always enjoyed Rook, and my family has a variety of other games that we've always played with Rook cards, but they're not worth the money. Alternatively, you can purchase the 57 plastic cards. They last longer.

Cards of Good Quality - In addition, there are the Best Rook Rules to Follow
5/5

I enjoy playing Rook, and this deck is well-made. If you don't have access to the internet, I recommend playing Rook at a level of ten. Count to five and call a partner for a four-handed game. In addition, if a partner increases their bid, they only increase it by half, and if they decrease it by half. Encourages people to bid rather than just go for a ride with a 180 point game, closed kitty, and the discarded kitty going to the last hand.

This is a fantastic card game with a lot of different options
5/5

This is a game that we have enjoyed for more than 50 years. The 2, 3, and four cards are removed from each suit, and the 1s have the most power and 15 points, followed by the 10s and 5s, which have their own values; a widow with five cards is taken by the highest bidder. The trump suit is established by the person who takes the widow, and the Rook card has 20 points but is the weakest of the trumps. This is a game that we always play at family gatherings!.

Great cards, but smaller than I expected
4/5

I got it for Black Friday at a great price. . . I got two sets. . . They're just smaller than I expected, and my parents have a set that's much larger, but I'm still happy with it.

The number 14 is missing
3/5

I placed an order for two packs. The red 14 is missing from one of the packs. Rook players are well aware that the game cannot be played if one of the csrds is missing. We had already opened the box and dealt the first hand before realizing what had happened, which was extremely disappointing. Buyer beware, as one of the packs I gave Mom was perfect.

The cards are very nice
4/5

I was a little put off by some of the reviews I read, but these cards have exceeded my expectations. Although they are significantly smaller than the box, they are roughly the same size as standard bridge cards. They have a nice sheen to them and appear to be of high quality. The box is typical of a low-cost game, complete with a hanging tab reminiscent of a department store display. Although it was damaged during shipping, the cards themselves were in good condition. The game's basic rules, as well as a few variations, were described on the instruction sheet. I'm curious if some people received a pirated copy, because these appeared to be in good condition.
