I'm looking for a bb gun that won't kill or maim any of the raccoons that have taken up residence in my bird feeders. Do you have any recommendations? Is the Sig 1911 a bad weapon to choose?

The short answer is: For your job, this is the incorrect tool. I would recommend a rechargeable airsoft rifle to add a little "sting" but no harm. It's about $20 cheaper, there's no need to buy CO2 cartridges, it's less likely to pierce their skin, and it can fire full auto.

What is the length of the barrel?

It's probably around 4 inches long.

Is this made of genuine metal or is it made of plastic?

Metal. The weight and feel are very close to those of a real 1911.

Fun toy

To begin with, this thing is heavy, and with a full CO2 canister, the blowback is quite impressive. It has a strong impact and lasts for about 5-minutes. It takes 6 full mags to notice a decrease in power. So far, it's been a fun toy to add to my collection, and the looks are fantastic. It has a lot of fine detail. It does have the feel of a 1911 colt, but in many ways it differs.

It shoots accurately and well, but it can stick if you don't oil it in places like where the receiver meets the slide. After two CO2 canisters, I suggest oiling.

I didn't have the same experience as the people who wrote the reviews. I'm not sure if I got a bad one, but it jammed twice on the first clip, six times on the second, and ten times on the third, so I decided it wasn't working properly. The accuracy at 15 feet does not correspond to the reviews. There appears to be a problem there as well. Again, maybe I got a bad one, but it wasn't very enjoyable to begin with and only got worse from there.

It lasted for two weeks before it needed to be replaced

It's no longer so. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so for this one in case anyone was on the fence. For about two weeks, I was completely enamored with this weapon. It performed admirably and fulfilled all of the seller's promises. Until, as soon as I screwed in a new cart, the CO2 began to leak. I went through about four or five carts in an attempt to figure out what was wrong. The tight fit that had kept the CO2 from leaking had become loose. I did everything I could to keep it from leaking, but it still did. I'm returning it right now and looking for a different type of co2 bb gun. I'm not sure if mine was defective or not. I only know that it worked flawlessly for two weeks before shutting down due to CO2 leakage.

It's not something you should buy

It worked for about 15 shots before failing completely. After that, you must pay for your own return postage. For 15 shots, I was out of money. It's also far too complex. It has the advantage of recoiling for a more realistic feel. I will, however, never purchase a 1911 based on this model. I'm going to stick with the Glock BB gun and the real-life Glock. Why would you buy a 1911 if the BB Gun Glock has the same superiority as the BB Gun 1911? It's all a ruse.

It's either too tight or not tight enough to shoot, so this isn't a practical way to keep the CO2 inside

Before you can fire ten shots, the co2 will either stop working or leak out completely.

However, none of the pellets will fire. Very disappointed, even though a CO2 cartridge was correctly installed.

The quality is decent, the weight and blowback are excellent, and the accuracy is adequate for a CO2 pistol. A few days later, I had to order another one for my father. This product comes highly recommended by me to anyone looking for a can plinker.
