Questions & Answers

What about the diamond sharpener provided with the Gerber bear grylls knives? Can this oil be used on it?

According to Lansky's website, diamond sharpening stones should not be used with honing oil and should be used dry instead. The diamond hones may need to be cleaned with some warm water, but running it under water will help get rid of any stuck shavings. In regards to Lansky's stone hones, they say they can be used dry or oiled, and that the oil is used as a way to remove filings. If you are sharpening or cleaning your Arkansas hones, you will need to use oil and never use water. Always use oil for sharpening or cleaning. Due to the fact that your hone is not a Lansky hone, maybe you can use oil on it. Bear Grylls field sharpeners that use round hones for sharpening serrations and carbide and ceramic sharpeners for the straight part of the knife may become messy because they are field sharpeners designed to be carried in a It is possible to use this oil or mineral oil for cleaning, but it is not recommended because by simply using warm water you can clean the diamond hones thoroughly. The oil can also be used to put a thin coat on the blade when not in use in order

Is there a reason you can't ?

As long as you have a water stone, you can. A sharpening stone can be of several types It takes oil, it takes water, and it takes nothing at all for others.

What kind of oil does this work with? I have a KA BAR USMC, can I use it with this oil?

A knife can be honed by dipping it in honing oil. It will help "float" the shavings away from the sharpening stone so that it will work If I were using a KA BAR, I would be careful since the oil could stain the leather on the handle.

Is it suitable for lubricating the pivot of a folding knife, as well?

I strongly discourage you from doing so. This type of oil isn't for lubrication but rather like "cutting oil" to aid in the job at hand, which in this case is to assist in removing Blaster 16 is a good choice With Teflon or Break-Free technology, TDL Advanced Dry Lube works great. No charge for CLPs Two cleaners and two lubricants in one.

This is not a sealed package

are no problems with this product it just came with a loose cap when it was delivered. The inside of the box was covered in oil from half of the bottle. I am not sure if this is a manufacturer's issue or if the bottle was opened and placed back in its My 2oz bottle of oil ended up being a mess and instead of a 4oz bottle, I got a 2oz bottle.

I used a Lansky puck and it worked great
5/5

I would like to share my review of Lansky Nathan's Natural Honing Oil with you. The puck was purchased to be used Work great, flip cap is great for using at a workbench, and a great value when it comes to *I would like to make a personal comment here (in case Nathan's reads these reviews) So I wouldn't have to fear it bouncing around in my bag and popping open, I'd prefer that the lid feature a flip out 'spout' style dispenser. Due to my distrust in flip lid style caps in that case, I will be seeking out a small spout style container for use in.

Buying this item if you own Diamond Honed will not be helpful
5/5

My purchase of such a large bottle of honing oil would not have been necessary if I knew I was going to switch to diamond hones. In my opinion, I didn't even use it anymore and it just sits around and collects dust

The water in this bottle is a great value if you're sharpening often on synthetic stones and need to remove swarf. You won't need to worry about it if you are using diamond or ceramic stones. Unless you know you'll be switching to diamond stones, don't waste your money on this since all you will be doing is spending money on a bottle of oil that will fill up with.

Please be aware An oil leak was detected during Lansky Honing Oil Today I received the package
3/5

The mailer had oil all over it. The mailer told me there was a loose bottle with a partially open or broken cap. I was surprised. I later discovered that Lansky Honing Oil was wrapped in plastic packaging that was unopened! This product had somehow leaked, causing oil to coat the outside of its plastic packaging and seep out into the mailer, which then coated the outside of the mailer. By the time I got the bottle, about 20% of the oil had leaked out. There was too much grease in my photo box for me to get good photos, so it was hard to take pictures. A picture of the packaged oil is shown on top the mailer in the first photo. It is because the mailer and bottle are coated in oil that they appear so shiny. In photo 2, you can see the packaged oil positioned at an angle so that it appears to be emptier than it actually In photo 3, I attempted to get a better view of how empty the bottle is, but all I got was a blurry shot. As I have not yet used it, I cannot comment on how good the oil itself is. However, the packaging isn't nearly as impressive as it could be.

That is the outcome you are seeking

If you want to fix up your axe, hatchet, or sharp outside tools, this oil is for you. To give my hatchets a good edge, I use a hand sharpening puck with oil. The how-to bushcraft account (@HowToBushcraft) is my passion for survival. Your tools need to perform optimally so they are always ready to go when you need them. There are many types and qualities of metal such as Swedish steel, American steel, and antique steel that I've used this method on. Make sure you pick up this honing oil, then watch for some quality tutorials You can see how the process is done by watching videos on YouTube. You'll become familiar with sharp edges in no time and wish you had done it earlier.

You're doing a good job
4/5

The original version I tried was In my Lansky puck sharpener I used 1 oil only to seep into the stone completely, and I barely got any sharpening results. The following information was later provided to me A single oil is neither a honing oil nor does it have the required composition. An oil-based honing agent removes debris (swarf) from the blade or cutting tool and also protects the stone, making the edge more efficient and resilient. Therefore, within minutes of receiving a bottle from Amazon, I sharpened my hatchet (Husqvarna The Echelon Hatchet) has a curved handle. The hatchet was sharp enough to slice a piece of paper after about 10 minutes of using both sides of the puck (there was only a dime-sized amount of oil required on each side). As a rule, I steer clear of generic type axes and hatchets because they tend to sharpen easily and are dull. Hand forged carbon steel axes or hatchets from Scandinavia, the best available, should be a part of every carpenter's, hunter's, camper's, bushcrafter's tool kit, etc.

You did a great job with that
5/5

The perfect sharpening stone for at home use. The bottle is of a nice size as well. There were a few reviews that said half the bottle was spilled during shipping. The top of the bottle came inside a plastic container inside the box to prevent spilling. My overall impression of the purchase is positive.

It is packaged
4/5

The bag in which the oil came was typical of those found at Amazon. After removing the package from the mailbox today, I noticed that I had lost a little over There was a leak from the bottle and it dripped into the package and soaked into the instruction sheet. 50 ounces of the oil was wasted because the bottle was not tightly sealed and the oil leaked out into the package. It is not possible to recover. A mere observation and not a criticism.
