Questions & Answers

Is the quality of this knife good?

You can get a better deal for the money. The blade steel is said to be 440A, which it could be, but if it is, the heat treatment is terrible, as I've never been able to sharpen MTech's blades. I'd rather have cheap knives made of 420 stainless steel because I'd be able to sharpen them. (They won't stay sharp for long, but at least they'll be sharp for a while.) Their 440A blades come dull and stay that way, so edge retention is excellent. ) If you're on a tight budget, a Smith is the way to go. Folder from Wesson; However, I would advise you to invest in a good knife, and Cold Steel produces some excellent budget and mid-range knives. and upper-class Knives for the grill And no matter what steel they use, their heat treatment is perfect.

What's the best way to keep the knife closed?

Lie the knife down on its side. When the knife blade is closed, look into the slot where it rests. This slot has a semi-circular semi-circular semi-circular semi-circular semi-circular semi-circular semi- The blade is held open by a serrated (sawtooth) arm that sits inside a circular notch. This sawtooth arm should be pushed towards the belt clip. To relieve the tension in that arm, you may need to open the blade even wider. You can close the blade after it has moved to the side.

Is the lever strong enough for police work, and will it not open in my pocket?

Yes, but I would never use it in an official capacity. It doesn't open smoothly enough for me to use the thumb switch, and mine sticks occasionally. It is better if you use the back tab, but for police work, I would get one that is more dependable and of higher quality. However, for the money, this is a good utility or camping knife.

What are the holes/slots running along the blade's edge for?

There isn't a reason for it; it's just a design decision.

I was let down
3/5

This product disappointed me greatly; it is a good knife with a sharp blade, but the locking mechanism broke after only ten days.

Amazing value for $12; the deployment mechanism is fantastic, and the only flaw is the lock
4/5

I bought it on eBay for about $12 with two-day shipping (it used to be the same price on Amazon, but it appears to have gone up temporarily) - So, keep in mind that if this knife were $12 on Amazon, I would give it five stars. Is it $26 worth it to me? As a knife collector, an ex-eagle scout, and someone who spends a lot of time camping, the answer is yes and no. I'm going to try to be objective in this review and not just give it a perfect score because it's such a great deal for the money. If you're curious about the brand, just like me, click here. MTech has proven to be far superior to the other low-cost knives (Tac-Knives, etc. ) in my experience. Force is a horrible thing). I'll go over the benefits and drawbacks: PROS: br>br>
1. At $12, this is a fantastic deal. $26
2. The Spring Assist is a powerful piece of equipment. Never before have I seen a knife of this size and weight with such a strong spring-action. function of assistance It blows knives that sell for 5 times as much out of the waterbr>3. The knife has a substantial weight. br>4 It comes fairly sharp out of the box; the slashing test was excellent, and the stabbing test was above average (I used particle board and a standard 2x4, as well as construction paper and corrugated cardboard, to obtain a variety of materials and densities). It doesn't have the same level of sharpness as a benchmade, but that's to be expected. This isn't AUS8 steel, but it is high carbon steel of good quality and durability.
5. The belt cutter works flawlessly, and the opening is just small enough that you won't be able to cut your own pinky with it (unless you have extremely small hands and are extremely clumsy, of course). br>6. The glass breaker, which is made of steelbr>7, is a great addition to an EDC. It's a DEEP clip, by the way. This is fantastic, but it's extremely rare. This item is ideal for concealment.
8. The most crucial aspect! The deployment system is incredible. For a fresh look in the springtime, semi-assisted I almost forget this knife isn't fully automatic because it is so automatic. You'll probably forget that it's not fully automatic, even though it's legal in all 50 states (that I'm aware of). The nub at the blade's base that keeps your finger from sliding forward and being cut by the blade acts as a "quasi-stopper. " The deployment is "automated" via a push button. The spring is activated with the same amount of pressure as if it were an actual automatic push button. WONDERFUL is an understatement. When the knife is open, this finger protection is also very effective, and closing the knife with one hand is possible if you really want or need to.
9. The design of the blade - I was hesitant at first, but after using it as an EDC for about a month, I've grown to appreciate the shape. Because of its tanto point and sturdy construction, it's ideal for self-defense. The inner curve of the blade, however, is the true hidden gem. The balance in this part of the blade is almost perfect, and it is very ergonomic. This inner part of the blade makes this knife wonderful for random daily utility, carving, and so on. CONS: br>br>
1. This is the most significant disadvantage: The locking mechanism is not to be desired. I haven't had any problems with it so far, but I haven't put a lot of kg/sq on it. adversity - It's a clip from the inside. locks. I'd be a little worried about it failing a few years down the road. The blade, however, is extremely solid and does not "jiggle" or move in any way - As far as clip locks go, this one is fantastic. It is, however, still a clip lock, which is the worst type of lock currently in use in major manufacturing.
2. While the blade is extremely durable, it does become a little fat in the back. On the one hand, I adore the knife's weight and balance (the weight of the handle is incredible), but I believe the blade's weight may be a detriment to some users. If you're looking for a knife to use in an emergency, rescue, or self-defense situation, this is the one to get I'd say the weight is a resounding PRO in terms of defense. If this is an EDC utility knife, the weight may be a tad heavier than usual (I'm nitpicking here). picking at this point, but only to be objective)br>br>Neither pro nor con: The high carbon steel used throughout the knife (blade, frame, and handle) is excellent, but it isn't the best high carbon steel available. steel with a carbon content It isn't an AUS-based company. 8, or anything better for that matter, but for the money - It is extremely cost effective. There aren't any more drawbacks that I can think of. br>br>I hope this is of use to someone!.

The locking clip is not secure, which is quite dangerous
3/5

I've had this for about a year and only use it for protection when walking my dog. I've never had to use it in combat. I've only opened it a few times, but today I noticed that the locking clip that keeps the blade in place no longer does so, and it's just a gruesome injury waiting to happen if the knife is ever needed. Only the tiniest amount of pressure is required to close the blade. Look for a more durable and secure alternative.

It's a big knife, but it's a good one
5/5

You're mistaken. It's a lot bigger. It's also more incisive than you might think. It's very practical and has a good weight to it.

I'll have to go out and purchase another
5/5

*****OVER A YEAR LATER UPDATE: My son uses this knife on a daily basis, and one of the clips' screws has finally fallen out. He couldn't find the screw or a replacement, so he sent them an email asking if he could purchase one. They responded by asking for a photo, and when he sent it, they informed him that they were sending him a brand new knife, which he received today. What a forward-thinking firm! We'll keep buying from them! br>br>My twenty-first birthday is coming up, and I'm excited. year- My knife was stolen the moment I took it out of the box by my 10-year-old son. He claims it's too manly to be carried by a mother. It's a big, beefy beast - It's a fantastic knife, and I wanted to keep it in my car in case of an emergency (it shatters windows and cuts seatbelts). So, since my son has taken mine, I'm going to get another. It easily flips open and is fairly heavy, which is desirable if you need to break a window with it. This summer, I'm going to use it on any car that has a pet or a small child locked inside.

The blade is in good shape right out of the box, but I put it through its paces
4/5

I didn't expect it to be so big and heavy. When it's clipped in my pocket and you're trying to get something out of it, I'm very aware of it. The blade is in good shape right out of the box, but I sharpened it to get rid of some burrs. Due to the width and length of the handle, quick deployment from my pocket is difficult. However, extending the blade is quick, but it puts a lot of strain on the thumb. It also has a knob on the back of the handle that deploys the blade even faster while also placing you in a switch blade grip. br>br>Overall, a good knife, but it might not be the best choice for non-lethal carry.

I bought two of these knives as gifts for my friends
4/5

I bought two of these knives to give to my niece and nephew for their cars so that they could use the knife's emergency tools. the emergency glass breaker and seat belt cutter In addition, the knife provides them with some protection in the event that they come across some threatening freak who wishes to harm them [which I hope never happens!]. The knife has a thumb lock that, with a little practice, springs open as quickly as a switchblade, making it useful as a tool when a knife is required. It is both affordable and practical.

Surprisingly sturdily constructed
5/5

So, I had previously purchased two Mtech 9" fixed blade knives, which were originally used as my and my wife's camping / hiking knives, and because they were so cheap, I didn't mind banging them around and really using them. They hold an edge well, are durable (I haven't broken a tip yet), and feel good in the hand. br>br>So when I was looking for a knife to keep on my plate carrier for emergency use, I came across this one. Because I'm trying to keep my carrier as light as possible and as streamlined as possible, space was a bit of a premium on my carrier. I chose this knife and was very impressed when we received it yesterday. The spring assist is noticeable and appears to be of good quality. I wasn't expecting anything less than a solid good (not great, could use a touch up) blade straight from the factory. However, I doubt I could do much better in the under $15 price range.
