Questions & Answers

Is it relatively simple to figure out how to blow into the reed in order to make it sound like an elk?

This is an excellent choice. Yes, you can learn to blow it and make it sound like a cow elk in estrus by watching YouTube or Google videos on the subject. I made the mistake of not knowing how to make a cow elk call sound like a regular cow elk call because I didn't know what a cow elk call sounded like in estrus. They sound very different, so watch some videos and practice, then you'll be fine. I can also say that in the elk rut, this call and sound works wonders. The last two years in a row, I used this call to call two bulls in on a string, hollering all the way. I do, however, use the orange one, which is easier to blow, rather than the "long range" one. I have both, but I mostly use the orange one, which I've found to be very effective if you're hunting in a real rut and know how to use it. Again, it's critical to simply google or YouTube how to do it, and this call is deadly (at least in my experience). I hope this information is useful!

Is the reed susceptible to breakage in cold weather?

I haven't had any problems with the reed breaking in extreme cold; I've used it in the teens. I do, however, keep a backup in my bag.

The audio quality is outstanding
4/5

Primos calls are legendary, and this one is no exception. I've been using their elk calls for about 17 years now, and they've never let me down. Diaphragms in the mouth are also present.

For a beginner, it's fine
3/5

Yes, it is reasonably priced, and for a beginner, it may be ideal. However, you'll need to experiment a lot to get anything that looks remotely like a cow to work. But it's a good one to practice on for the price. Because if you can do this, anything is possible!.
