Round about 1" in diameter. My dowel was one inch and I carved it to fit at Lowe's. It was also a wonderful surprise that the cold steel Bushman, which is newer, fit perfectly as well. The frogs are now in my hunting, fishing, and fishing ears. A 4ft walking stick made from the poor would also make a great
There is no way the spear head I bought will fit on the pipe because it is mounted on a beveled shaft.
Exactly what's going on I don't know. Its tapered tip is approximately 1/2" in diameter up to maybe 3/4 in diameter. Then I will carve the tree to fit after cutting a small diameter tree. It should work if you buy a non threaded wooden paint roller handle at your local hardware store for cheap. This should be of some assistance.
How do the barbs and the tang cause the pain?

The quality of these was very poor, and I regret saying so. The convenience of getting a few at a lower price and the comfort of having spares led me to purchase them all at once. One of the prongs of this gig broke the first time I used it. Think of it as luck of the draw and it's no big deal. By removing the gig and replacing it with another, I made a better decision. As soon as the second gig was attached to a pole, it broke apart. The size and weight of these items may have led me to overestimate how well they will hold up, but I can't imagine they will be that fragile considering what they are used for. The product was beyond disappointing, and I apologize for the negative review. This is my first and only review.
Perhaps the larger spears might have been better when you order the five-pronged ones. The ones I got were the large spears and are terrible for frog gigging since they do not penetrate the frog, just push it into the mud and leave a trail. They would be returned, however the cost of returning them would be roughly equal to what I spent to purchase them. Despite what it may look like in the photos, they are considerably smaller in person.
The description states that this is "tempered" steel, but it is pressed steel. Despite being tack welded closed, the joint is not even closed A jig is just bent around a round part. I expected a little more than what they provided, but what can you expect for that.
I had expected it to be just like I expected
It is in my backpack and will live most of it's life there
It is just one more way to gather food while hiking
Thanks for the product.
You can use it for whatever you like as long as you know what you're doing first. Material is thin and a bit weak, but for the price I paid, it works fine for the purpose I have designed.
As a standalone product, it is excellent because of what it is designed to do. I'm pleased with how it works. There have actually been a few fish caught.
Gig of decent quality. Since the prongs are made of aluminum, they can be fragile. Do not bend them at all or else your fingers will snap. The members of our band have played quite a few gigs during the summer. I have them on a five foot shovel handle on which I have caught snakes, fish, and stumps and they are still working. I cannot beat both the price and the quality. Next summer I plan on getting a few more.
There were some horrible ones here. Gigging with them was a true joy for us since we paid for one day shipping. The homemade gig my husband had been using (from a dowel rod and straightened out catfish hooks) ended up lasting much longer than these. Many of the frogs were unable to be penetrated by the tines Several of them cut off contact with others outright. The quality of the product was really disappointing.
This was our first time purchasing anything at under $3. We did not expect anything spectacular, but hoped they would hold up for several trips.
