My reel is a 7/8, and I'm using a four-piece 9' 8 Fenwick with it. Fenwick is an excellent rod with a limited lifetime warranty that performs as well as the big guns while also not breaking the bank if you are new to saltwater fly fishing. BTW, the reel is incredible, and I'm very happy with how well it works.

I primarily use Lamson, Sage, and Galvan high-end reels. I decided to take a chance on this low-cost sealed drag reel. Positives: It's well-made, the drag is effective, and the oversized knob is appealing. The spool release is superior to the lamson and sage spool releases, which must be popped off. The most significant advantage is the cost, which is half to a third of that of high-end reels. Negatives: Changing from left to right hand retrieve was a pain (you have to be careful not to lose two small parts). Instructions can be found on YouTube). I purchased the ice blue color, which is extremely bright and lacks the paint depth seen on more expensive reels. It's possible that a different color scheme would be more appealing. I went with the bright blue because I usually fish with several rods and needed something that would stand out in the grass. That's something it's ideal for. Finally, it's a big reel, much bigger than a lamson or a sage. The weight is a little noticeable on such a light rod because I bought it for a 3 weight rod. Overall, I think I'll prefer my lamson to this, but the lamson costs three times as much. 5x the amount.
On a three-week fishing trip to Soldotna, Alaska, I put this reel to the test. 07/14/21 - 08/04/21. At least, that was the case for the first leg of the journey. br>br>The reel was used to catch sockeye salmon on the Kenai River. Take note of the following: The Kenai current is strong and fast where I fished, as are the sockeye coming up the river. br>The reel looks and feels solid. Nice design and color scheme (I would have preferred blue, but it wasn't available for the 9/10). br>The Kenai was no match for Reel. Even though I hooked up with a king salmon that broke my fly rod in half, I was able to improvise and reel it in before releasing it. The king made two large runs, one down river and the other towards the deep center. With the large arbor and the reel, it was a breeze to time my pulls and cover ground quickly. The bad news is that: br>br> When the reel spool suddenly ejected itself into the river, I was hooked on a large salmon. Again, a fast, strong river meant the reel was swept away by the current and lost forever. br>I enjoyed the reel while it was in my possession, but I'm annoyed that I'm out nearly $200 because of a minor flaw. If they fix this flaw, this will most likely be the last reel I ever buy, and I would buy a lot more if they fixed it, as would the rest of our fishing crew, who were all impressed with it. br>The drag knob is the only other criticism I have. I like the fit, but it's quite slim, making it difficult to tighten when it's extremely cold and wet. To tighten the drag, it was difficult for my fat fingers to grip it. br>br>Overall, I enjoyed the reel while it was in my possession. Unfortunately, I only have the nice neoprene storage case to remind me of it. I'd heard of others' reels popping off and assumed it was a one-time occurrence. Nope.
As a result of this, as well as poor customer service, I felt compelled to write this review. br>br>I placed an order for two of these reels. The first came from the Piscifun website, and when it arrived, the drag knob had been cross threaded into the drag assembly, rendering it useless. I received a return shipping label after 7 days and more than ten emails to Piscifun customer service. In addition, no one picks up their customer service phone number, and the voice mailbox is full. br>br>Even though the second reel I ordered did not have the same problem as the first, I decided to return it. The drag knob wiggles from side to side, and I can see the threading wearing out over time; additionally, my poor customer service experience has made me doubt Piscifun's "Lifetime Warranty. " In the future, if the reel fails, good luck filing a claim. br>br>At this price point, sloppy workmanship and poor customer service are unacceptably expensive. I was able to purchase a comparable reel on sale from an American company/manufacturer with a stellar reputation for customer service for the same price, and while I own other Piscifun products, I will not be purchasing any more after this experience.
I spent about a month looking into fly rod and reel options. I'm a beginner, but I've bought three fly rods and two reels in the past, all of which were entry-level, so I was looking for something a little more high-end but still not quite top-of-the-line. the- equipment for the production line After returning to this reel several times, I decided there was no better option for the price. br>br>I purchased this along with a four-piece Fenwick 5WT rod. This was fantastic in the White River in Arkansas on a bitterly cold weekend. The reel is clearly superior to my other options, and the drag system is something I overlooked when I was using the less expensive gear. I had no trouble casting this, and it felt great to fight some trout on a higher-quality setup. I'm glad I chose this version in the end- However, I'm still stumped as to how to say the name.
Durable. It's attractive. The Piscifun Platte is a well-made and reasonably priced fly reel. There are a plethora of fly reels available, some of which are affordable and others which are not. br>Piscifun (pronounced pea-fun) is a fruit that comes from the pea family. sea fun) manufactures high-quality CNC-machined products at a reasonable price. I'm not concerned with drag settings or the amount of backing a reel can hold; I'll never see my backing, and I'm not concerned with "keeping up with the Joneses. " br>I'm looking for a line holder that isn't too expensive, and Piscifun fits the bill. br>These reels are reasonably priced, durable, scratch-resistant, and hold my line well. br>I now own two Piscifuns and am pleased with both. Will they freeze if the water is cold or if the weather is cold? Perhaps, but I don't fly at that time of year. Is the anodizing of the parts satisfactory? Even after being thrown into a creek and dragged across a sand bar, mine appears to be in good condition. Is this a Chinese product? Yes, they are, along with a slew of other well-known brands. Should you give one a shot? br>I could be a Piscifun salesperson, but I'm not. Don't take my word for it; the only way to find out is to purchase one and give it a try. It is an investment that you will not be sorry for.
