Fly fishing is my passion and I have been doing it for over 40 years. In a typical year, I fish for 50 to 100 days. To go with a new streamer rod I purchased, I had to buy a reel. In terms of the price they charge, name brand fly reels are a total racket. If you don't want to spend $200 plus on a fly reel, don't go that route. You can buy the Piscifun Crest here. This fly rod works exceptionally well with my fly rod, and I haven't had any problems handling 10 pound brown trout with it. After discovering this company, I will not be able to purchase name-brand fly reels in the future.
Fish off the beaches of Oregon's coastlines that I enjoy chasing include redtail surf perch. Flyfishing gear is particularly difficult to maintain when it is exposed to saltwater or sand. As a result of these harsh conditions, I searched for the most affordable reel I could find. Whenever I watch the reel, I feel like a kid again. Five of them are now in my possession for different rod and line configurations as I fish In my experience, the Crest 4 rods balance really well with my Echo Boost beach fly rods of 12 feet. This rod and reel set was purchased along with a Piscifun 7WT rod to target bass in the Northeast. I found the drag easy to adjust (perhaps a little too easily), but it kept its position while I caught small mouth bass In agreement with other reviews, I wish the drag had a bit more click feature so that it would not be as easy to adjust from light to heavy drag, but after a few days, I got used to it and I may have just needed more time to adjust it.
