Selected User Reviews For Okuma Sierra Fly Reel, S-5/6-CL
I only began fly fishing this spring and didn't want to invest too much money in fly fishing equipment if I didn't enjoy it. I purchased an Okuma Sierra 5/6wt and 7/8wt fly reel, as well as an Okuma Crisium 7/8 rod and a Shakespeare Cedar Canyon 5/6 rod. They perform admirably and can withstand a fair amount of abuse. These reels have been dropped on rocks and continue to work flawlessly. The reel's shape and thickness contribute to its sturdy construction. It will dent and scratch, but unless you really try to break it, it will continue to work.
Simply put, it's all about simplicity. I'm sure $500 reels are more comfortable, but this one does the job just fine; now if it could only get trout to bite dry flies.
It's an adequate fly reel for beginners. It holds a good amount of backing, has a good drag, and goes well with my Okuma 5/6 wt fly rod.
It is quiet, smooth, and efficient. The reel is to my liking.
great.
Great little reel; for about a hundred dollars, you can get a reel plus a couple of extra spools for intermediate and sinking line. There isn't much that could go wrong.
