Questions & Answers

Will this be enough to pull the johnson 09-? 812b- Is it possible to have one indmar and one Malibu at the same time?

Yes. It's compatible with the water pump impeller on my boat's Indmar 310hp predator engine. My hard drive is a v drive, which makes things a whole lot easier.

Is the diameter of the opening or the diameter of the impeller hub the proper measurement to determine the correct tool?

This tool did not work in my application, to be honest. My impeller and pump housing simply did not allow the puller's arms to engage properly. The tool is well-made, but it will almost certainly need to be redesigned in order to justify its claim of "universality."

Will this size of puller fit an Ilmor 6? Is it possible to have no impeller?

We have a Johnson impeller in our system. I doubt it will work on yours.

Is it possible to use it with Mastercraft impellers?

It worked perfectly with our Malibu Wakesetter.

It works
5/5

I'll start with the fact that you MUST use antiseize on the threads. They should include a small tube, but I have plenty on hand, and I learned that there are different versions of this tool for different applications. It was my fault for not noticing this, but due to space constraints, it ended up working out. I had to cut the front straight shaft part of the impeller down so I could reach in and grab it. after the mod has been completed and the threads have been lubricated with antiseize. I went from attempting to remove the impeller with pliers for over an hour to doing so in less than two minutes. min. My project is a Volvo D4-based engine-mounted unit. 260 br>br>At around 7-inches in diameter, the impeller was original. years old, and had only ever been used in salt water- Having recently purchased the boat, it was necessary to conduct a thorough inspection in light of everything else that had not been properly checked or maintained. I thought it was stuck on the shaft at first, but it's just very tight in the housing and in such a small space. It all comes down to having the right tool for the job. br>br>I now keep a spare impeller on the boat, along with this tool and everything else I'll need to replace it if it fails.

Although a conceptually necessary tool, the SEADOG is not one of them due to its poor quality
3/5

The tool seized after the first use of removing the impeller. Metal shavings were found in the tool's treads after a closer examination. I spent about 30 minutes wire brushing the screw portion of the tool, applying grease, and working it back and forth in a vise to clean up the threads. The problem appears to have been resolved as a result of this. My fear is that when I rotate her impeller, which I won't have to do until next fall, the threads will shave metal off again, either on the extractor screw or in the tool housing. br>For $50, I don't believe this tool is worth it unless it holds up and continues to do its job without deterioration in the future. You shouldn't have to clean up and repair substandard products for the money you paid. This is the kind of issue I'd expect from a $10 tool. When it worked, it was easier to remove the impeller than it had been in the past when I had used screw drivers to pry it out. br>On a positive note, when it worked, it was easier to remove the impeller than it had been in the past when I had used screw drivers to pry it out. This also ran the risk of damaging the housing, which was one of the main reasons I purchased this tool in the first place. br>The SEADOG impeller product is not worth the money in general. I would highly recommend an impeller puller, but not this particular brand. br>Best of luck to my fellow DYIers in their search for a better quality tool than the SEADOG. If it is a well-made tool, pullers are well worth the money I paid for them in terms of time savings.

fail
3/5

USE ANTI- SEIZE. It's difficult to give this one a score because it was a complete failure for us. Before the threads fused with the housing, we moved our impeller about 1/4". I'll make an effort to read product instructions. (Though, in this case, I believe the "instructions" should have been highlighted in some way to make them stand out more) I hope manufacturers learn to avoid galling by using dissimilar metals on moving threaded parts. br>br>On the other hand, it definitely gets 5 stars for "thickness. ".

It's possible to make improvements
3/5

I'm not sure how I would have removed the impeller without it, but it was nearly impossible to get the arms between the propeller's veins without it. Because the bolts on the side were colliding with other things at the only angle where the veins were really open, I had to use an angle where the veins on one side were very collapsed and touching. br>br>Only about halfway down the impeller, about 1", was I able to get the device into the pump. I tightened the nuts until the forks dug into the impeller's rubber, at which point I was able to gradually loosen it. This did cause some damage to the impeller, and it was not reasonable if your goal was to simply inspect it rather than replace it. I had intended to replace it from the start.

This was sufficient
5/5

In my hunter sailboat, I removed the impeller from my Yanmar 3JH2E. I got the puller this time because the impeller is always a difficult job, and I ended up having to remove the starter motor because the pump and the starter had no clearance. After that, I was able to pull the impeller with the tool. Even with the tool, it was difficult, and I doubt it could have been done without it.

Profanity is 95 95 95 95 95 95 95 95 95 95% Amazing! After an hour of yanking on my impeller with needle-nose pliers, I finally gave up
5/5

I tried nose pliers but couldn't get them to work, so I gave up and bought this puller. Using the puller, I was able to remove the impeller in under 5 minutes. My Yanmar 4JH3TE is designed so that you can only get to the impeller if you have hands the size of a 3-year-old. year- old, contortionist-like flexibility, and Thor-like strength. I think this is the best purchase I've ever made!.

Worked perfectly with my 2007 Moomba Outback V Drive 325hp Indmar Assault after struggling with needle nose pliers for about 30 minutes
5/5

I was apprehensive about attempting to pry open the pump with screwdrivers or two paint can openers, as I had read on various forums, because I didn't want to damage the pump's sides. I gave up and ordered this, and despite having almost no space with the muffler right behind the pump on my direct drive, I was able to remove the impeller in less than 5 minutes. As I had read in other reviews, no modifications to the tool were required with my boat. It's a bit pricey for what it is, but it's well worth it. With one difference in my driveway vs. the shop, I was able to pay for it twice over. For the record, my boat is powered by a Johnson 812- Impeller type B.

It works! On my Raptor 6, the impeller
5/5

The 2 Liter engine was stuck in an awkward position and refused to move even with pliers. On the first try, this tool pulled the impeller in under 3 minutes. If I could, I'd rate it six stars. I hope you have a similar good time as I did!.
