Both 3/8" and 3/16" have been used. A 1/2" twisted polypropylene rope was successfully constructed.
Yes, by tightly twisting a soft braided rope to reduce its diameter, I was able to pass it. It was tight, but it worked; I doubt a twisted polypropylene rope would have passed.
I'm guessing it'll be on Amazon or Ebay.
I'm sure they have the technology, but instead of replacing your rope, why don't you just add a stainless steel snap ring to the end of it?

On our pontoon boat, we have square tubing and use it frequently. We must, however, purchase them on a regular basis because they frequently fall off. On the tubing, some will fit more snugly than others. With the boat parked in a marina where the water is a little choppy, I can't tell you how many bumpers we've lost. They are, however, the best we can find and make it simple to hang items on the inside of the boat as well. We continue to use them as a result. It's not like they're expensive (though losing bumpers is a pain), so losing one or two isn't a big deal.
These are exactly what I needed to hang bumpers on my pontoon boat, and they work perfectly. I have 1 1/4 inch rails, and the hangers appear to be molded for that size; they hold well and can withstand a lot of pulling without breaking. I'm not sure how well they'd stand up to a lot of pulling. I believe the hole through which the line passes will most likely break. But I'm not going to try it because testing these things is prohibitively expensive. For a piece of molded plastic, I believe the price is extremely high, and I expect it to remain so until the patent expires. In any case, they perform admirably, and I'm grateful to have them. It's a breeze to hang the bumpers out this way.
They appear to be similar (and may work), but they lack the Taylor Made logo and appear to be made of a different material than the genuine Taylor Made hangers I previously purchased and the appearance on the Amazon site; I'd like to exchange them for Taylor Made hangers. I only gave five stars because the return was so simple, which I greatly appreciate.
It's almost perfect, but because these are made of plastic, they're prone to failure under any excessive load beyond what's expected. We hurriedly left a slip, forgot one fender dangling over the side, and the clip snapped as we were speeding down the highway. Sure, it's our fault, but it's a serious problem. It would be fantastic if these were machined from aluminum with integrated rubber padding on the underside to protect painted surfaces in the real world. Some of us would be willing to pay a higher price for greater durability.
These are far superior to frantically tying knots every time you approach a dock or another vessel, and they eliminate the "amateur move" of taking off with your bumpers dangling. I use them on a Bennington, which has wider/larger aluminum rails, according to what I've heard.
off. These aren't Taylor Swift-inspired. Made. Unlike ALL Taylor-made products, the name is not imprinted on the product. Products that have been made. Taylor will not honor a warranty if I have a problem with this after the Amazon return period has passed because it is not their product!.
On our pontoon boat, this fender/rope holder is perfect. Our pontoon, like many others, has some edges where a rope cannot be secured because there is no opening between the rail and the boat (in many places, the aluminum siding comes right up to the rail). br>br>These little guys fit right over the rail and have a hole through which a rope can be tied to keep a bumper in place. It only takes a few seconds to put them on, and the rope can be kept from slipping through with a simple knot. br>br>The only drawback is that they are just as easy to slip off the rail as they are to put on. So if you're not careful, this, the rope, and the bumper will all end up in the water. The good news is that the bumper floats and is therefore relatively simple to recover. You can also tie another knot to avoid this problem on parts of your boat where there is a gap between the rail and the siding. Overall, I would recommend it - br>br> I can't think of a better way to get bumpers in all the places where they're needed on our boat than this.
There are no identifying marks. This leads me to believe they are a knockoff rather than Taylor Made. I purchased these because I enjoy Taylor Made products, and according to the description, these were to be Taylor Made. It's even written on the ones in the picture, just as it is on the others I've had. We'll see how they hold up, but I'm disappointed because I purchased them as a brand name product, which is probably why they were so much less expensive than the real thing, but please don't describe and sell them as genuine Taylor Made clips.
