Ours is made of aluminum and has a stainless steel spring; I'm looking at one right now. It's possible that some people are getting knocked out. United Plastic Molder's Fish Grip suffered from the same fate: Amazon was flooded with Chinese knockoffs. If you're not sure, buy from a reputable seller and report any fakes to Amazon.
If you get the fish under its gills, it will hold its breath for a long time. If you hold your ground, the fish will not be able to escape. The season of spring is ideal. It must be opened by hand once it is fully closed. When the spring isn't working as well as it should, that's when you know it's time to replace it. I wouldn't be able to function without it.
Closes to a 3/4-inch hole after opening 6 inches wide. They're a hit with the members of my fishing club.

If you fish saltwater and encounter "Hard Head Catfish," this is an essential tool. It saves a lot of time by allowing you to move quickly and safely from the small to the large sections of the line. Also works well for any catfish under the age of six. 8lbs. Mine has been put to a lot of use and is still going strong. It does not float, which is the only drawback I can think of. So far, I've completed three of them over the course of many years. This type of grabber has been around for 35 years, and I have personally owned one. And there haven't been any significant changes to the design. Overall, this is probably the best "catfish grabber" on the market. In terms of other fish, my kids have used them on anything under 6 pounds that comes over the boat rail or that we catch on the bank/peir.
I had to use both hands to separate them because I wanted to fight the fish, not the thing that would grab them. When you get this thing wet, it becomes even more difficult to disassemble because there are so many moving parts that they all rely on one another. Save your money and look for something that won't make you stressed or tired, and that you can operate with just one hand.
Great item at a great price. I enjoy fishing from our dock, but the local stores no longer stock it. Also, the price is the best I've seen on the internet.
If they last as long as my father-in-law's pair, they'll be fantastic, but they're looking great as is. I really like these holders because I catch a lot of catfish.
After the trip, all of the metal items are simple to clean and store. It was well worth the money.
It's ideal for removing hooks with a mid-sized fist.
