You will not be affected by rain or the weather. You'll need to wear layers underneath, but the coat definitely keeps rain and wind out. It is not that I go out to sea, but I use my farm on top of a mountain where the winters are very cold and There may be some dislike for the smell of pvc plastic, but I don't believe it is too significant.
